It was Rudy Gobert’s job to guard Joker, and he was fantastic.

After having a 3-1 series lead, the Orlando Magic rolled over against the Detroit Pistons like a Republican desperate for acceptance. It was brutal, and now their HC is unemployed.

The Lakers were as good as they’ve been all year in winning Game Six and their series against the Rockets.…And I was thinking the Lakers should have sat LeBron and geared up for Game Seven. Talk about a swing and a miss.

The Philadelphia 76ers have grown on me. I like the Knicks, I’m a Villanova guy, you say Mikal Bridges and I say, Amen!

But I find myself leaning Philly in their series with New York.

Joel Embid was great against the Celtics, but when it mattered most, it was Tyrese Maxey who carried them to the win. If Allen Iverson was The Answer, Maxey is The Verdict.

I divested myself of Laker fandom a long time ago, but the old guy inside me, the one with PTBS (Post Traumatic Boston Syndrome), kept thinking the NBA was going to find a way to take Game Seven from the 76ers.

Given how the Celtics were shooting and Reggie Miller himself saying they were taking too many threes, I don’t think any effort by the NBA could have saved the Green-Men.

Speaking of cheating—or how I viewed it—it’s worth mentioning that 1993 was the last time a Canadian franchise won the Stanley Cup.

In 1993, after winning Game One, the Kings were leading Game Two when Montreal pulled serious henhouse over Marty McSorley’s hockey stick having too much curve. McSorely got put in the box, and the Canadians scored on the power play and then went on to win four straight.

(McSorley confirmed that sticks came that way from the manufacturer, but I still think if he were wearing a jersey north of the border, it wouldn’t have been an issue. I’m bitter.)

Still, 33 years have passed. I may not believe in spiritual karma, but I do believe in sports karma, and Montreal’s actions in ’93 were bad karma.

Good business decision by the Rams not to pick up Emmanuel Forbes’ fifth-year option. I like Forbes, but no need to commit beyond 2026.

If Forbes is great, you can make him an offer, or if he’s really great, you can let him walk and get a decent compensatory pick in return.

For what it costs to run a high-level Division-1 football program these days, how long will it be until we get football teams from the University of Musk, the University of Bezos, or Gates Tech?

I had Bold Forbes winning the Kentucky Derby, but Golden Tempo’s comeback was better than Nixon’s in ’68.

#37—May the San Francisco Giants rot and lie stinking in the earth…

Not a fishing expedition, but on Monday, February 23rd, my eyes opened, and I had a FanView column in my head.

I went out to my office and banged it out, and every Monday through Friday since—51 consecutive weekdays—I’ve written a FanView column.

I know some of you, like me, and many more dislike my content, but that’s okay.
