Well, to quote the late, great\u00a0Francis Albert Sinatra, \u201cAnd Now, the end is here, and so I face, the final curtain…\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Yes that time has come once again, the end of the regular season. Time to thank the Cardinals and the Dons and all of the rest of the cellar dwellers in the Southeast Division for participating this season but more importantly, time for the \u201cFour Weeks of Fury,\u201d the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Of course, what makes this final week more interesting is not only the fact that this is the end of the regular season and that 16 teams are going to move on to the knock-out stages, but that there are a number of Rivalry Games that are showing up. We\u2019ll highlight this week\u2019s ones with the name the game is known by.\u00a0For the last week of the season, Mayfair gets the bye in the Suburban and a week to prepare for the Southeast Playoffs next week.<\/p>\n

WEEK 10<\/p>\n

Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010<\/p>\n

La Serna vs. Cal (at\u00a0Whittier\u00a0District Field,\u00a0Whittier, CA, Del Rio League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

RIVARLY GAME: \u201cThe Mustang Bowl\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong>Normally, when it comes to Cal and La Serna, you usually throw the record book out the window. However there are two big stats to remember going into Thursday\u2019s game. Until their win against Whittier, the Condors were on a six-game skid and now are 3-1 in league and have all but locked up a playoff spot. The Lancers, on the other hand, have won seven straight since losing to Warren in September. If history tells us anything, the Condors always finds a way to win over the Lancers, winning six out of the last nine meetings. A Condor win would also cause a tie for the league title, something Lancer\u00a0Head Coach\u00a0Margarito Beltran wants to avoid.<\/p>\n

Prediction:<\/strong> La Serna 35, Cal 31<\/p>\n

Santa Fe at Pioneer (Del Rio League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

RIVALRY GAME: \u201cThe Super Chief Bell Showdown\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: F<\/strong>our weeks ago, The Titans were on their way to their best record in recent history, but three straight losses, including an embarrassing 70-0 shellacking at the hands of La Serna doomed Pioneer. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are in the playoffs and actually have an outside chance of earning a tie for the league title, should Cal pull off a miracle and beat La Serna. Jack Mahlstede\u2019s Chiefs have got their running game ready for their final tune-up before the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Prediction: <\/strong>Santa Fe 28, Pioneer 24<\/p>\n

Friday, Nov. 12, 2010<\/p>\n

Whittier at El Rancho (Del Rio League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong>This one is pretty much for pride. The Dons had been hoping to contend for a playoff spot, but a three-point loss to Cal and a 21-0 shutout by Santa Fe in the last two weeks killed their chances. They can salvage a respectable season with a win over Whittier. There\u2019s not much that Whittier could look to hang their hat on. They were 12 minutes from pulling off a major upset over Santa Fe but lost it.<\/p>\n

Prediction: <\/strong>El Rancho 38, Whittier 10<\/p>\n

***<\/p>\n

Norwalk at Artesia (Suburban League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong>Norwalk got caught in a Matador stampede last week, while Artesia\u2026 well, the good news for Artesia is that the season is over after this week. Expect the Lancers to rebound from their loss in the same way Santa Fe did on El Rancho. If Artesia gets more than a touchdown this week, they should consider that a\u00a0moral victory.<\/p>\n

Prediction:<\/strong> Norwalk 56, Artesia 10<\/p>\n

Cerritos vs.\u00a0John Glenn\u00a0(at Excelsior Adult School, Norwalk, CA, Suburban League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong> Who would have expected Cerritos would be in position to win a playoff berth, but after a 12-7 upset over Bellflower, they\u2019re sitting in a tie for fourth in the Suburban with the Bucs and a win over the Eagles and a Bucs loss to La Mirada will guarantee them the fourth spot. Glenn’s playing for pride, and when it comes to a game like this, to quote\u00a0Bill Murray\u00a0in “Meatballs,” “It just doesn’t matter…” Look for the Eagles to pull out all the stops to keep the Dons from clinching that spot.<\/p>\n

Prediction:<\/strong> Cerritos 42, Glenn 31<\/p>\n

La Mirada at Bellflower (Suburban League)<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong>The Buccaneers can still reach the playoff s as the wildcard with a win over the Matadores. The Matadores, on the other hand, need only a win to lock up the Suburban League title and most likely one of the top four seeds in the league. The Buccaneers are facing their biggest challenge, and \u201cCaptain Blood\u201d doesn\u2019t surrender easily. You can almost hear Kiera Knightly screaming, “Strike the Colors!” from the sidelines<\/p>\n

Prediction:<\/strong> La Mirada 38, Bellflower 35<\/p>\n

BONUS PICK: South East High at Garfield<\/strong><\/p>\n

MATCHUP: <\/strong>The Bulldogs are one win away from clinching the\u00a0Eastern League\u00a0outright and running the table. But standing in their way to that perfect league record is South East High. Interestingly enough, Coach Roger Satti\u2019s Jaguars have been very competitive so far this season, with their only losses coming at the hands of last-year\u2019s\u00a0Division I\u00a0runner-up Narbonne and a four-point loss to Roosevelt at the start of the League season. This is not going to be an easy game for the Bulldogs, but after this season, they wouldn\u2019t want it any other way. The Jaguars are going to be contenders for a long time to come.<\/p>\n
