In regards to a current debate going on about the Schurr-Monrovia match…at center will the Spartans Albert Perez get a chance against the Wildcats Ellis McCarthy?<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think McCarthy is going to line up at nose…my guess is he will be creating havoc from other directions.<\/p>\n

Word from the Muir contingent is that Friday\u2019s road victory over La Mirada, and its parade of stars, was probably the program\u2019s most significant since the 1990\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Last Add Muir: Besides the Mustang defense which physically surprised the Matadores, credit needs to go to the coaching staff for keeping the team focused after a long bus ride didn\u2019t land them at the stadium until 6:45 P.M.<\/p>\n

Update from Saturday: In saturday\u2019s Fanview Lite I mentioned that Rosemead was the most recent local team to go 10-0 during the regular season only to lose in the first round of the playoffs (La Serna 21-6 in 2005).<\/p>\n

Mayfair is not exactly a local team, but they are in the Southeast Division. In 2006 the Monsoons were 10-0 when they entered the first round of the playoffs and fell to a 6-4 West Covina team, 19-16.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Muir…and significant wins…The one the Mustang faithful must be referring to from the 1990\u2019s is the 43-40 second round win over Newbury Park on November 29, 1996.<\/p>\n

Muir has not won a game in the second round since…<\/p>\n

Did you say false? You\u2019re right, that\u2019s wrong. In fact it was John Dunaway who led Rosemead to a second round victory over Garey, 20-6, in 1983.<\/p>\n

In 1982 Dunaway led Mead to a second round victory over Indio, 27-17, in route to tying Garey, 19-19, in the CIF Finals at Mt. Sac on December 10.<\/p>\n

Last Add M-Town-Schurr: The Spartans and Wildcats have met five previous times when they were part of the original Mission Valley League. Monrovia won all five meetings, interestingly enough the last time they squared off was on November 5, 1976.<\/p>\n

On the final play of the game M-Town\u2019s Jack Giacolone intercepted a pass from Spartan\u00a0 quarterback Andy Vasquez at midfield to fell a final push and preserve a 14-7 victory.<\/p>\n

The win, featuring a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Barron to Ed Kidd and a 56-yard touchdown run by Dennis Brown, gave Monrovia the MVL title.<\/p>\n
