Checked out La Serna running back Richard Alvarez\u2019s highlight tape this weekend.<\/p>\n
The song reminded me of the original NBA Street game. You know, what was the modern version NBA Jam, both, awesome games.<\/p>\n
Alvarez is great in space, especially with the several counters run by the offense. He is able to burst through the open holes with ease. He is able to shift to an extra gear once he hits the secondary. Also not just a speedy back, but he is capable of dragging a defender the few extra yards for the first. He carried the ball 152 times for 1,101 yards and 25 touchdowns.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Took a stroll down to First Street in Alhambra to visit the Moors. As I walked through the gates I felt what Frodo might have felt as he walked into the fiery gates of Mordor as he headed into Mount Doom.<\/p>\n
Well not really I just recently watched Return of the King and can\u2019t stop thinking why did they walk so far when they had giant flying eagles.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m off track here. I met Coach Torres at his office and we walked down to the weight room where soon to be Seniors Jonathon Bird and Justin Baeza were hard at work.<\/p>\n
Several players from the freshmen team were also on hand to lift. The Moor freshmen football record was 8-2. \u201cThey are to be the backbone to lift the team to the next level,\u201d commented Coach Torres.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had the right offense and got the best out of the team,\u201d he said. \u201cThe young guys hung in with tough teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
With his 37th<\/sup> year of coaching coming up Coach Torres is still enthusiastic and passionate. \u201cYou can\u2019t coach this long without being excited for the upcoming season.\u201d<\/p>\n With Codee Watts and Kevin Kolbeck having played their final game this past season for the San Dimas Saints it\u2019s time to look ahead to returning players. Watts threw for 1,488 yards and 12 touchdowns with eight of them being caught by Kolbeck.<\/p>\n Shawn Kennedy is one of the two junior quarterbacks listed on MaxPreps returning to helm the position. As a sophomore in 2009, Kennedy threw for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns in leading the Saints to the Mid-Valley\u00a0Division championship. In 2010 he missed the entire regular season due to injury but returned for\u00a0SD’s playoff games against Maranatha and Monrovia. He went 12 of 17 for 225 yards,\u00a0a touchdown and two picks.\u00a0<\/p>\n Was at the San Gabriel girl\u2019s basketball game this Saturday. They were able to advance to the second round of the CIF Division 2AA playoffs. Their first time in the playoffs in 15 years.<\/p>\n On a final note, we all knew the Slam Dunk contest was Blake Griffin\u2019s to lose.
