Team goal is to raise $24,000 to travel to Spokane, Washington.
\nFrom August 1-7, the Arcadia Girls Softball 14U All-Star team will compete in the 2011 ASA
\nWestern National Girls B Fast Pitch Championships in Spokane, Washington. This is the first time
\nthat a team from Arcadia has qualified for a National Championship Tournament.
\nThe Arcadia 14U team achieved this opportunity by finishing in the top 4 at the Northern District
\nTournament 6\/24-26. They won that tournament and finished \u201cNorthern District Champs\u201d. Then,
\nArcadia girls competed in the Southern California State Championships held in Lancaster, California
\nJuly 8-10 among 31 other teams and needed to finish in the top 12 to qualify. They defeated teams
\nfrom Northridge, Clairemont \u2013 San Diego, Peninsula and Cerritos and finished 7th overall qualifying
\nto compete in the Western National Championship Tournament.
\n\u201cIt has been a real pleasure coaching such a fine group of girls. They are true athletes who have
\nshown dedication to their teammates and a determination to win.\u201d stated Cesar Mejia, Team Manager
\nand Arcadia resident.
\nAt Nationals in Spokane, the team is guaranteed of playing at least four games against teams from all
\nover the Western United States including Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho, Alaska, Washington,
\nMontana, Wyoming, Oregon, California and Hawaii.
\nThe Arcadia 14U All-Star team members include: Taylor Carnes (Bradbury), Annie Diehl (Arcadia),
\nJenna Harper (Los Angeles), Lauren Jauregui (Arcadia), Lexi Madrid (Pomona), Elise McCarthy
\n(Monrovia), Izzy Mejia (Arcadia), Yeram Park (Arcadia), Olivia Rivas (Duarte), Alyssa Scimeca
\n(Monrovia), Riley Worley (Arcadia) and Shelbi Zernickow (Monrovia). The team is lead by Team
\nManager, Cesar Mejia and Coaches, Todd Bowden, Jon Zernickow and Gabby Mejia. Two other
\nplayers, Ashley Rosales (El Monte) and Kathryn Martinez (Arcadia) are unable to continue due with
\nthe team to Spokane.
\nThe team estimates that trip expenses will cost $24,000 to represent the League and City of Arcadia at
\nthis National event. The girls and their families will be engaged in a variety of activities over the next
\ntwo weeks in an attempt to offset the trip\u2019s expenses.
