{"id":17914,"date":"2011-09-02T21:59:40","date_gmt":"2011-09-03T04:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=17914"},"modified":"2011-09-03T12:20:43","modified_gmt":"2011-09-03T19:20:43","slug":"el-monte-43-baldwin-park-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=17914","title":{"rendered":"EM\u2019s Martinez Showcases Skills in Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By George Hernandez<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17967\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Brandon-Martinez.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17967\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17967\" title=\"Brandon Martinez\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Brandon-Martinez.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">El Monte Lions quarterback Brandon Martinez<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(Baldwin Park) El Monte quarterback Brandon Martinez put on a show against Baldwin Park Friday night, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for over a hundred yards,\u00a0 in the Lions 43-17 victory at Braves Stadium.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Martinez started quick with his first touchdown strike a 34-yarder to Gus Bentacur.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin Park drove down the field and kicker Omar Caldera hit a 50-yard field goal to make it 7-3 at 7:34 in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions put the game away over the next quarter and a half with three more Martinez touchdown passes, two went to Juan Ceballos and the other to Memo Silva making it 28-3 at the break.<\/p>\n<p>The Braves came out tough in the third quarter driving the ball and capping it off with a three yard touchdown run by quarterback Eric Robles to make it 28-10 after the extra point.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte didn\u2019t let up and pounded the ball on the ground and finished it off with a one yard score from Bryan Luevano putting up the Lions 34-10 after a 2-point conversion failed.<\/p>\n<p>Manuel Santa Cruz came in relief for Martinez and the former starter went 4 of 4 for 76-yards and a 22-yard score to Silva.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin Park gave the ball to Giovanni Resendez and he took it 80-yards to paydirt making it 40-17. The Lions closed the scoring with a 34-yard field goal from Luevano to make it 43-17.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez finshed with 215-yards passing and four touchdowns, he ran for 116-yards.<\/p>\n<p>The EM defense intercepted three passes, Santa Cruz, Bentacur and Frank Lopez also grabbing a BP toss.<\/p>\n<p>Robles final numbers were 49-yards passing and three interceptions.
