{"id":28125,"date":"2012-10-13T04:04:24","date_gmt":"2012-10-13T11:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=28125"},"modified":"2017-06-10T10:45:33","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T17:45:33","slug":"el-monte-50-rosemead-34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=28125","title":{"rendered":"Lions Light up Rosemead"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_28169\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-28169\" title=\"10-12-12 EM-ROSE 012\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/10-12-12-EM-ROSE-012-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brandon Martinez was the man for El Monte throwing six touchdown passes and running for another.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(Rosemead) &#8211;\u00a0Brandon Martinez threw\u00a0six touchdown passes and ran for another to lead El Monte to a 50-34 win over Rosemead Friday night.\u00a0Martinez spread the wealth throwing two touchdown passes each to\u00a0Abel Barrajas, Josh Morales and Adolfo Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->El Monte jumped out to\u00a0a 36-14 halftime lead courtesy of\u00a0four touchdown passes by Martinez including a\u00a060 yarder to Adolfo Sanchez and tosses of 33 to Barrajas and\u00a026 to Morales.\u00a0It looked like the Lions would run away and hide in the second half but Rosemead quickly got back into it\u00a0with two scores to open the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Everado Camacho connected with\u00a0Steven San Miguel for a 34 yard score. The Lions fumbled a snap on the ensuing possession and Rosemead immediately\u00a0cashed in again. From the El Monte 27, the Panthers needed just six plays\u00a0to get in the endzone\u00a0with Camacho capping it with a five ayrd run.\u00a0Suddenly\u00a0Rosemead had made it a one possession game at 36-28.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_28213\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28213\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-28213\" title=\"10-12-12 EM-ROSE 022\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/10-12-12-EM-ROSE-0221-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">El Monte&#8217;s Abel Barrajas (left) and Brandon Martinez- the best one-two punch the Lions have ever had?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But the Lions kicked it right back into high gear. Martinez hit Barajas for a 48 yard pass\u00a0down to the 11 yard line. From there Martinez fired a ten yard bullet\u00a0to Sanchez\u00a0and then the senior quarterback ran in the to point conversion and the advantage was back\u00a0to 16.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Suhagen\u00a0caught a one yard toss from Camacho with just seven seconds\u00a0remaining in the third quarter to give Rosemead 20 points in the third and cut the lead to\u00a044-34.\u00a0But Martinez&#8217; sixth TD pass of the night\u00a0&#8211; this one for\u00a023 yards to Morales and an interception by Marco Reyes of Camacho late in the fourth iced it for the Lions.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte struck twice in the first quarter.\u00a0After a big punt return by Barrajas set up the Lons at the Rosemead 23, Martinez connected with him for a four yard touchdown pass.\u00a0After forcing\u00a0Rosemead to punt, Martinez rilfed a spiral over the middle hitting Sanchez in stride who strutted into the endzone for a 60 yard score for a 12-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers then made thier first run of the game\u00a0with two straight touchdowns to grab the lead.\u00a0Camacho hooked up with San Miguel for a 38 yard gain and he found him again on the next play for a ten yard score to get the Mead in the board.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte was stopped on fourth down and\u00a0Rosemead took over at\u00a0its\u00a0own 45 on the next possession. Camacho went\u00a0to San Miguel again this time hitting him with a 34 yard strike\u00a0to start the second quarter. And suddenly the Panthers were up 14-12.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They took a 14-12 lead. That&#8217;s not something we worry about especially in the first or second quarter,&#8221; said El Monte Coach Joel Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p>And worry they didn&#8217;t as the Lions went on a\u00a024-0 run to close out the first half.\u00a0Twice Martinez made big pass plays for touchdowns\u00a0&#8211; 33 yards to Barrajas and 26 to Morales and El Monte converted on all three two point conversions.<\/p>\n<p>14-12 Rosemead turned into 36-14\u00a0Lions at the half. It looked like it was over already early before\u00a0Rosemead came out with the two quick\u00a0scores to open the third.\u00a0The Panthers made it interesting for awhile but it\u00a0wasn&#8217;t enough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We played hard to the last whistle.\u00a0That&#8217;s what we do and we got a victory\u00a0and now we move forward,&#8221; Sanchez said.\u00a0&#8220;I tell people all the time unless you come and see us\u00a0you think it&#8217;s just the Brandon Martinez show. Of course he&#8217;s great, we know that.\u00a0But so is Abel (Barrajas), so is Josh Morales, Adolfo Sanchez and\u00a0Josh Wu.\u00a0It&#8217;s a group of guys, about four or five guys that are good.\u00a0It&#8217;s not just one or two.\u00a0And another thing is our line.\u00a0I haven&#8217;t heard one thing about our line all year and our line is playing thier butts off every game.\u00a0They leave it all the field and do everything we ask them to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Martinez, behind that line,\u00a0threw for 381 yards and six scores on\u00a021 completions.\u00a0Everybody got into the act as Martinez threw to\u00a0five different receivers. Barrajas had 98 yards receiving, Sanchez 88, wu 84 and Morales 75. Martinez added 84 yards on the grond and\u00a0Angel Gonzalez\u00a0contributed 52 rushing yards.<\/p>\n<p>San Miguel did the most damage\u00a0for Rosemead with 11 catches for\u00a0167 yards and three touchdowns.\u00a0Alec Zavala ran for\u00a0117 yards on 15 carries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody talks about their offense but their defense made a couple of big stops too and you have to take your hats off to them,&#8221; said Rosemead Coach Marc Paramo.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte improved to\u00a05-2 overall and 2-0 in league.
