Powers<\/p>\n<p>(South El Monte)- South El Monte kept the significance of its Week Ten date with El Monte alive on Friday night, by beating Arroyo 13-7 at \u201cThe Swamp\u201d.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Eagles got on the board at 9:10 mark of the first quarter after converting a bad snap\/fumble by the Knights in a 9-yard scoring run by quarterback Levi Wells.<\/p>\n<p>The Southmen were able to build on the advantage midway through the third quarter when Eric Garcia scored on a 3-yard run. The two point conversion failed. The touchdown was set up by Mario Burciaga\u2019s 48-yard run deep into Arroyo territory.<\/p>\n<p>Three minutes later the Knights crawled back into striking distance when Peter Aholoka scored on a 5-yard run. Adrian Hernandez added the extra point and it was 13-7 in favor of the Eagles.<\/p>\n<p>There was no scoring in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The victory improved South El Monte to 2-1 in the Mission Valley League, 4-4 overall. Arroyo is now 1-2 in the MVL, and 4-4 overall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Carson E.
