(Pasadena)- A tight first half contest turned into a Cathedral runaway in the third as the Phantoms took a 34-9 decision over La Salle at Kohorst Field on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Cathedral’s defense recorded five sacks, while its offense scored three touchdowns of over 50 yards towards in the season opener for both teams.<\/p>\n

***Three of the sacks were by Noah Johnson; Mark Finau had the other two.<\/p>\n

***Cathedral running back Martaveous Holliday rushed eight times for 209 yards and two touchdowns. This includes an 85-yard dash to the end zone 17 seconds into the second half, and a 71-yard score early in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

***Phantom running back Jahmaree DeSett (7 rushes – 88 yards) scored on a 52-yard run with 3:41 remaining in the fourth.<\/p>\n

***The game began slowly as Cathedral and La Salle combined for nine penalties and a loss of 54 yards in the opening stanza.<\/p>\n

***The Phantoms took a 7-0 lead off a touchdown pass from M.C Poe (14-31-154yds, 2 TDs, 1INT) to Aaron Moore (6 receptions, 85 yards, 2 TDs).<\/p>\n

***La Salle marched three times into Cathedral territory, but did not score until they converted a fumble recovery (by Sebastian Schiff) near the goal line. This set up a short 4-yard run for Milan Acquaah to tie the score 7-7.<\/p>\n

***Acquaah led the Lancers on the turf with 67 yards and the team’s lone touchdown.<\/p>\n

***La Salle starting signal caller Aaron McCorkle, who bore the brunt of the Phantoms defense, completed 14 of 28 passes for 113 yards.<\/p>\n

***The Lancers missed two field goals.<\/p>\n
