The Panthers are coming off a 9-2 season that ended with a first round loss in the CIF Southeast playoffs to Santa Fe 31-28.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39118\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Layton1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39118\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39118\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Layton1.jpg\" alt=\"Layton led Diamond Ranch to consecutive Southeast finals appearances in 2008 and 2009\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-39118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Layton led Diamond Ranch to consecutive Southeast finals appearances in 2008 and 2009<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Layton took over for Tom Leach in 2006\u00a0and guided Diamond Ranch to the second round of the playoffs\u00a0where they fell to El Dorado.\u00a0The Panthers went 7-3 the next season but missed the playoffs. It was the only time during Layton&#8217;s\u00a0tenure that Diamond Ranch wasn&#8217;t in the post season.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers were in the Southeast Finals in 2008 and 2009 where they fell to perennial power Charter Oak. Layton, who always played one of the toughest non-league schedules in the area, had an overall record of 53-42 including 8-7 in the playoffs.
