Manny Acosta – From New Temple Park to four year College Star…Future is even brighter<\/p><\/div>\n

Love stories like this…Back in the day\u00a0we used to cover Little League and one of the seven leagues\u00a0that we covered was South El Monte National\u00a0that\u00a0played at New Temple Park. Manny Acosta played shortstop and pitched\u00a0for the SEM National Pirates and\u00a0had\u00a0the word\u00a0“potential” written all over him.<\/p>\n

A lot of times\u00a0though (unfortunately\u00a0too many) potential is never lived up too. The light burns out, things happen and\u00a0the dream just fades away. Not so with Manny Acosta.\u00a0He went on to star at South El Monte High School in three sports and parlayed that\u00a0into a baseball scholarship at Cal State LA.\u00a0\u00a0Acosta completed his four years\u00a0of NCAA eligibility and his college baseball\u00a0career is now complete. As a four year starter, he started in over 200 consecutive games and led the Golden Eagles to\u00a0a California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament\u00a0championship in 2013.<\/p>\n

Acosta was a two time CCAA Player of the Week and also made the\u00a0All-CCAA Conference list twice. He\u00a0was the team Rookie of the Year in 2011 and Hitter of the Year in 2014. He ended his college career\u00a0with a .320 batting average, a .380 slugging average\u00a0and a .384 on base average.\u00a0Oh, and by the way he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. Acosta hasn’t completely\u00a0ruled out a shot in the Major Leagues -he could still land a try out –\u00a0but if that doesn’t work out he may utilize his collge degree to go to medical school.<\/p>\n

I ran into Manny\u00a0a few weeks ago where he was coaching football for South El Monte at the\u00a0SGV Shootout. You know, he needed something to do in his spare time.<\/p>\n

And all of this started on the fields of New Temple Park in South El Monte…and I was there to\u00a0see it.\u00a0I just\u00a0love watching a kid that I covered\u00a0as a 12-year old go on to have this type of success – on the field and\u00a0in the classroom. For Manny Acosta, the best is yet to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
