It was South Hills\u00a0HC\u00a0Albert Rodriguez&#8217;\u00a0plan to pound the ball and Garcia\u00a0carried out that plan\u00a0to near perfection with 38 carries for 224 yards and two touchdowns\u00a0as the Huskies beat Covina 38-29 Saturday night in the opener at San Dimas High.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->South Hills chewed up the ground for 338 yards overall. Andrew Segura had 49 yards on just five carries including a 29 yard romp late in the game that iced it. The Huskies\u00a0did throw it occasionally. Garrett Fonseca completed 5 of 12 for 58 yards and two touchdowns.\u00a0Fonseca only put it up three times in the second half.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_40981\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/042.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40981\" class=\"size-large wp-image-40981\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/042-645x768.jpg\" alt=\"Another solid outing for Pearnell Smalley\" width=\"520\" height=\"619\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-40981\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Another solid outing for Pearnell Smalley<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Covina trailed by\u00a016 late in the third quarter but refused to go away.\u00a0Eric Williams and Pearnell Smalley kept the Colts in the hunt.<\/p>\n<p>***South Hills led 10-7 after one and 17-15 at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>***The Huskies blew it open in the third scoring on their first two possessions. Garcia scored on a 13 yard run and after Zak Barron intercepted a pass and returned it to the Covina eight yard line, Quinn Cotter hauled in a touchdown pass from Fonseca.<\/p>\n<p>***Williams had four receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also had four carries for 45 yards and a score.<\/p>\n<p>***Smalley rushed 17 times for 126 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>***Covina had two turnovers, both interceptions, while South Hills did not turn it over.<\/p>\n<p>***Covina quarterback Joe Benavidez completed 8 of 12 for 193 yards, 1 touchdown and two interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>***Zach Morea had three receptions for 70 yards for the Colts including a 63 yard reception in the first half.<\/p>\n<p>***Williams caught a 33-yard TD strike from Benavidez with 4:37 left and also caught a pass for a two point conversion that cut South Hills\u2019 lead to 38-29, but the Huskies ran out the clock on the next possession.<\/p>\n<p>***\u201cThat\u2019s kind of our style the last couple of years. We\u2019re a power team and we\u2019ll run the ball at you.
