The curtain falls on Arcadia tonight after one of the most difficult seasons in the last 20 years.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Hornets never should have traded Norm Nixon for Byron Scott…<\/span><\/p>\n

Three years ago I owned Vernon Davis in fantasy football…I dumped him and won a championship…I hate it when these guys turn their careers around…its just awful…<\/span><\/p>\n

And just like that…the regular season for prep football is over…<\/span><\/p>\n

Temple City and San Marino are meeting for the 55th straight year. Think about this, if you were 16 (a junior in high school) when these\u00a0schools first met it means you were born in 1939 and will be turning or have turned 70 this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1955 thru 1959 San Marino won four and tied once with TC. The Rams didn’t get their first win against the Titans until 1960…and just by a strange coincidence that was Bob Hitchock’s first year as HC in TC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Temple City is 17-9-1 when on the road against San Marino.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: When San Marino first opened it played its home games at Rosemead High School…Back in the days of Skip Face.<\/span><\/p>\n

On this date in 2004 at \u201cThe Swamp\u201d Arroyo\u2019s Rosenber Penaloza registered five sacks and Dominic Salmon connected with Sergio Leon for a 51-yard score at the 10:57 mark in the first quarter to lead the Knights to a 17-6 victory over South El Monte…Arroyo\u2019s last victory over the Southmen.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the same night at Charter Oak, Richard Miramontes rushed for 115-yards, including a 31-yard touchdown run, and Chapelle Brown caught seven passes from Daniel Sandello to lead Los Altos to a 24-21 victory over the Chargers.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a 14-yard scoring pass from Sandello to Miramontes in the fourth quarter that provided the difference. The victory was the Conquerors last over CO.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chargers, who have not yielded a point in the Miramonte League this season, have not lost a league game since falling to Bonita 21-14 on October 21, 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n

They call that dominate.<\/span><\/p>\n

We call this terrible. <\/span><\/p>\n

When you run your basketball program through the spring, summer, and early fall only to find out you are being let go at the end of October. This is what happened to longtime El Monte boys basketball coach John Gillette.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was relieved of my coaching duties on Friday, October 30th,\u201d said Gillette. \u201cGreat timing – a couple of weeks before the start of actual practices and the game season right around the corner.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn essence – the\u00a0new school administration (the new, entire\u00a0administrative staff was brought to El Monte High School on Aug. 6) had decided they wanted to go in a new direction<\/em>. That involved meeting with all the parents, getting them involved\u00a0in a booster club organization. getting the rest of the community involved, as well as the alumni association. Alright, fine – – – but I was never made aware of this at all. The principal of\u00a0activities, who does not have the authority to hire\/fire coaches, first requested my resignation the previous day (Oct. 29). I refused to resign and requested a meeting with the principal. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe principal then outlined his new direction, goals and I was not part of the new direction, and was not given a chance to respond to his given objectives. It is the principal’s prerogative to hire\/fire coaches. I’m a big boy, been around, and I will land on my own two feet. I’ve had a helluva coaching\u00a0career that spans over 45 years (CYO, etc.).\u00a0But this one was not handled right, nor was the timing good. It may turn out to be the greatest decision ever, but the way it was done was not very good in my opinion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gillette will still be teaching at EMHS<\/span><\/p>\n

And area basketball continues to go steadily downhill.<\/span><\/p>\n

Duarte is not only staring at its first winless season since 1988, but also its third campaign in the last twenty where they have failed to score at least 100-points in a season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keeping it positive for the Falcons: Since entering the Montview in 1994 Duarte has won 12 and lost only three times to this week’s opponent Bassett. They are also 6-1 at the Olympians home field.<\/span><\/p>\n
