Photo by Anne Cypress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(Irwindale, Ca) \u2013 With an estimated 5,000 fans in attendance at the 69<sup>th<\/sup> Running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix were treated to some open-wheel racing.<\/p>\n<p>The night got to a great start as Kody Swanson and Chad Boat were dominant in the last chance qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett Peterson and Cole Whitt won the undercard races quite impressively as they went wire-to-wire.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of \u201cThe Aggie\u201d award that goes to the winner of the Turkey Night Grand Prix was Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>FORD FOCUS MIDGETS \u201cHOOSIER TIRES 40\u201d \u2013 40 LAPS<\/p>\n<p>Garrett Peterson from West Sacramento, Ca took the \u201cHoosier Tires 40\u201d to open the main racing of the night.\u00a0 Peterson\u2019s margin of victory was 1.778 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Peterson was fast all night during the 40 lap feature that saw two cautions thrown during the night.<\/p>\n<p>The complexion of the race changed in the 15<sup>th<\/sup> lap when Cody Gerhardt and Austin Luttmer spun into each other when Gerhardt was in third.\u00a0 The spin meant Gerhardt and Luttmer were sent to the back of the pack.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Ferns of Shelby Township, MI was impressive passing four drivers in the last 20 laps and finished second.\u00a0\u00a0 Ferns made a pass of California State Pavement Champion Nik Romano for second on the 26<sup>th<\/sup> lap.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4464\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4464\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4464\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Chad-Boat-qualifier-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"Chad Boat raced his way in to the Turkey Night Grand Prix. Photo by Anne Cypress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Michael J Lewis was able to get by Romano for the third spot.<\/p>\n<p>WESTERN STATES SPRINT CARS &#8211; 40 LAPS<\/p>\n<p>Cole Whitt took advantage of starting in the front row and took \u201cTeam Red Bull\u201d to the win of the second feature of the night.<\/p>\n<p>Whitt was never really challenged as he went wire-to-wire.\u00a0 The margin of victory was 0.816 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Kody Swanson was able to get the second spot on the 26<sup>th<\/sup> lap and made one attempt to challenge Whitt on the 39<sup>th<\/sup> lap but could never get to the winner.<\/p>\n<p>Swanson had to battle from the fifth position much of the night to get up to the second position.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Pierovich was able to finish third.\u00a0 Pierovich was able to hold off the USAC Western States Sprint Cars Champion Tanner Swanson for the position.<\/p>\n<p>TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX \u2013 98 LAPS<\/p>\n<p>In the 69<sup>th<\/sup> running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix, Bryan Clauson took the lead on the 41<sup>st<\/sup> lap to win the prestigious race.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4461\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4461\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4461\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/MG_0057-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Josh Wise led early in the Turkey Night Grand Prix. Photo by Anne Cypress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe had run here three times before and had some good cars,\u201d said Clauson.\u00a0 \u201cWe fought some mechanical issues early tonight.\u00a0 The crew fought hard and was able to get this car fast for the main event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was Clauson\u2019s seventh win in the Mopar National Midget series.\u00a0 Clauson won on asphalt twice this season with his win at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and O\u2019Reilly Raceway Park.<\/p>\n<p>It was also an incredible night for car owner Mark DeBeaumont who had his cars finish first and second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark was talking to us about battling each other for a Turkey night win,\u201d said Clauson.\u00a0 \u201c.\u00a0 \u201cFortunately for me I was able to get clear and not have to battle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clauson was able to get by Josh Wise on the low side of turn four as both were passing the lapped-car of Dave Darland.<\/p>\n<p>Wise had the best car early as he was out to a two-second lead until Scott Pierovich and USAC Midget leader Brad Kuhn collected each other on the 11<sup>th<\/sup> lap of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Kuhn (finished 28<sup>th<\/sup>) had to sweat out the remainder of the night as Brad Sweet had to finish third or better to win the Championship.\u00a0 Sweet would finish sixth and lost by eight points.<\/p>\n<p>The Rookie-of-the-year Levi Roberts of Broomfield, CO came from as far back as fifth to get second.\u00a0 Roberts made an impressive pass on Wise to get into second.<\/p>\n<p>Wise would end up finishing third after having to hold off Jesse Rodela.<\/p>\n<p>Last season\u2019s winner Bobby Santos had his evening ended on the 52<sup>nd<\/sup> lap when his car failed to fire at the end of the backstretch entering turn three.<\/p>\n<p>The race had to be re-started as Darren Hagen and Jason Leffler were involved in crash that saw Leffler go over the top of Hagen\u2019s right rear wheel.<\/p>\n<p>More photos from this event can be found at cypresstreephotos.printroom.com<\/p>\n<p>HOOSIER TIRES 40 \u2013<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Garrett Peterson<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Taylor Ferns<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Michael Lewis<\/p>\n<p>WESTERN STATES SPRINT CARS \u2013 40 LAPS<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Cole Whitt<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Kody Swanson<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Scott Pierovich<\/p>\n<p>TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX \u2013 98 LAPS<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Bryan Clauson<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Levi Roberts<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Josh Wise<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Jerome Rodela<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Tanner Swanson<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Brad Sweet<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Garrett Hansen<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 Alex Bowman<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 Davey Hamilton<\/p>\n<p>10.
