Why? we don&#8217;t know. That&#8217;s a question for the CIF selection committee but what we do know is that they went\u00a07-3 and allowed only 149 points all year (just under 15 points per game.). The Buccaneers\u00a0had only given up 28 points in the first five games &#8211; a run which included two shutouts.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->With Bob Ryan directing the defensive unit, the Bucs only real flaw was allowing 40 points to Suburban League champ La Mirada.\u00a0In that game however, offensive miscues led to\u00a0La Mirada points.\u00a0Tony Brown picked up a fumble and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown\u00a0and the Matadores also had\u00a0a short field on several drives. The 28 points scored by Norwalk against\u00a0Bellflower was the Lancers second lowest point total in the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>In five of the Bucs&#8217; ten games, they allowed\u00a010 points or less.\u00a0Would Bellflower have made a run in the playoffs?\u00a0We don&#8217;t know but\u00a0Ryan&#8217;s crew would have loved to be given the opportunity.\u00a0Bob Ryan made the most of Bellflower&#8217;s opportunity in the regular season leading a defense that was the stingiest in the Southeast.
