(Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>By Tim Peterson<\/p>\n<p>(Anaheim) &#8211; KISS defensive back\u00a0Josh Victorian scored on a pick six on the first possession\u00a0of the game and LA was\u00a0in the driver&#8217;s seat the rest of the way in a 66-27 rout of Portland Monday night\u00a0before 9,235 at Honda Center.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The KISS led 27-14 at the half as\u00a0Nathan Stanley threw three touchdown passes including a pair to Donovan &#8220;Captain&#8221; Morgan\u00a0of four and 20 yards and\u00a0one to Brandon Collins. The Steel tried\u00a0to stay in it behind quarterback Darron Thomas. Thomas threw\u00a0a pair of touchdowns. His four-yarder to ex KISS receiver Tom Gilson just before the half cut the LA lead to 13.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan picked up number three of the night\u00a0on a six-yard toss from Stanley\u00a0to put\u00a0the KISS\u00a0up 33-14 on the first possession of the third quarter. The KISS held\u00a0the Steel on downs and Stanley connected with D.J. Stephens in the corner of the\u00a0end zone\u00a0for a 39-14 advantage. (Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>However the Steel refused to melt.\u00a0Gilson hauled in his second score of the evening late in the third quarter and\u00a0after another Stanley to Collins\u00a0connection\u00a0Terrence Mitchell returned\u00a0a kick off back 55 yards for a touchdown\u00a0to cut the lead to 46-27.<\/p>\n<p>A KISS turnover put\u00a0Portland in scoring position again but Dan Buckner\u00a0stepped in\u00a0front of a\u00a0Thomas pass and returned\u00a0 it 45 yards to the house\u00a0to make it 53-27 and drive a stake through the Steel.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian\u00a0got\u00a0his second pick of the night with less than two\u00a0minutes left.\u00a0The KISS immediately\u00a0cashed in as Stanley hooked up with Morgan on the first play with 1:oo left to make it\u00a060-27.\u00a0For Morgan it was his fourth TD of the contest.<\/p>\n<p>On Portland&#8217;s final possession, Fredrick Obi picked\u00a0off a pass in his own end zone and\u00a0returned it 52 yards to the house\u00a0as time ran out for the final tally. It was the KISS&#8217; third pick six of the night and their fifth interception overall.<\/p>\n<p>Stanley completed\u00a023 of 31 for 233 yards and seven touchdowns for LA. Morgan had eight catches for 65 yards to go along with his four scores.\u00a0Collins had seven receptions for 75 yards and two TDs. For the Steele,\u00a0Thomas was 25 of 49 for \u00a0259 yards and three touchdowns but was killed by the five picks.\u00a0Gilson had\u00a010 catches for\u00a078 yards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The defense played well all night for the\u00a0most\u00a0part.\u00a0We put a challenge up to\u00a0our DBs that they needed to play well and play well early to set the tone,&#8221; said KISS head coach Omarr Smith. &#8220;Hopefully our offense can feed off of that.\u00a0And they came out and did that.\u00a0In the second half the pass rush kind of took over\u00a0and they made our job easy in the secondary.
