Brees-Manning? Yeah, that game should be alright.

I’ll say it first; Gary Cuozzo.

Cuozzo was a respected back up for the Colts Johnny Unitas in the mid-1960’s and went to New Orleans in the Saints expansion season of 1967. There it was learned, Cuozzo wasn’t much of a starter and he was dealt to the Minnesota Vikings (he went 1-3-16yds-Int in Super Bowl IV)where he toiled for four years mostly as a back up to Joe Kapp. He was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1972 and finished his career that same season.

I thought it was interesting. Hard to believe a guy named “Cuozzo” (CA-WAZ-O) could ever be an NFL quarterback and play in a Super Bowl…actually gives me some hope.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to say it, I have never been a New Orleans Saints fan. I did like them a little bit back in the days of Jim Merlo and Alvin Maxson.

It’s difficult to say where he was by mid season, but by season’s end Mark Sanchez was a very good NFL quarterback, and proved Pete Carroll wrong. He was ready for the NFL.

If Sanchez can stay healthy he’ll be a great one because he is such a competitor. You can say that about all of the quarterbacks who played yesterday.

On the other hand if Sanchez continues to get whacked the way he did on his touchdown pass to Dustin Keller in the second quarter Sunday he’s not going to stay healthy…and Jets left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson will explore a fascinating career in telemarketing.

Colin Cowherd went off on a rant this morning about how the NFL has changed and that you don’t need the elite running back anymore. He made some excellent arguments about the cost versus breakdown of investing in these guys. Example being the Colts with a couple of ordinary guys in Joseph Addai and Donald Brown are going to the Super Bowl.

I ceased being a Brett Favre fan a long time ago, but his talent has always been enormous. While getting the crud literally beaten out of him he was awesome yesterday. However, in the final seconds of regulation the Brett Favre who has always been Brett Favre from 1991 to present showed up.

Favre wasn’t looking to be a hero, but in his arrogance (in believing he’s so talented fundamental rules of the road don’t apply to him. Like throwing back across your body to the middle of the field.) he believed he could make a throw he had no business making.

Deon Sanders punked out on the NFL Channel in defending Favre by saying it was third down, the Vikings were already out of field goal range, and was trying to make something happen. Favre could have scrambled for five or thrown to a wide open Bernard Berrian for a few more and got back into field goal range.

Michael Irvin on the same NFL Channel panel was the only one honest about it…Favre blew it. Again.

I guess 2009 belongs to the Saints from San Dimas all the way to New Orleans.

“The weight room has really started strong. Both periods are lifting and running hard. The championship has brought a sense of urgency. The championship has really affected of freshman class. This is the most hungry freshman class I’ve had so far (the Soph class is a close second). They are also the strongest at this point, and the one’s most likely to give up their free time and lift at lunch even if it’s for only 30 minutes,” Bill Zernickow HC San Dimas.

Oh I’ve always been a Toronto Raptor fan!

In the TMI Department: When I become violently ill no one should care except perhaps the person who has to clean up after me. But on Friday night my evening at Arroyo was cut short after the Rosemead Lady Panthers worked the Lady Knights for a 47-32 victory.

I Interviewed Mead HC Jay Gauthier briefly after the game…beat it out the door…and proceeded to wretch my guts out for the next 24 hours.

I didn’t touch base with His Arroyo Baldness, I didn’t chat with Mike Gorball, and worse I didn’t get my game story posted nor was I there to report on the guys game.

I apologize to all.

Gauthier turned 43 on Friday and was given a fat victory courtesy of Evelyn Ramirez (21 Pts) and Jeanne Tran (15 Pts)…Again, I apologize to all but a dead Joe Torosian sprawled out on the court at Verne Nelson Field House probably wouldn’t have cast the Mid Valley in the best possible light.

The Lady Panthers did look terrific playing solid defense and contesting every shot.

This will be the last day “The Mid Valley Draft” update will be included in Fanview Lite…We will created a separate item for it on our site starting tomorrow. We’ll be producing our Draft Board…Top players in each position to help you draft for your NFL team.

We’ve already got a better response than I dreamed of…I was hoping for ten, but I would love to have more sign up.

This is going to be a lot of fun.

Blue State wants to know what happens after the draft is done. We break it down and determine a winner. Which should be interesting. Put it this way if Josh O drafting for the Tennessee Titans takes Ricky Johnson out of West Covina in the first round when he already has Chris Johnson running the rock, that will effect his draft rating.

How do you do it? Pick a team (just by dropping a team name into the comment box) and you’ll draft players from either the Southeast or Mid-Valley Division (60 schools in all) to meet your NFL team’s needs.

Think in terms of Prado picking for the Jets drafting Carlos Arredondo out of Schurr because they need someone more reliable than Braylon Edwards.

So far we have;

Joe Torosian: St. Louis Rams

Martin “Knight” Lopez: Green Bay Packers

Blue State: Cleveland Browns

Arroyo Knight: New Orleans Saints

Bonita Alum: San Diego Chargers

Andy Villanueva: Cincinnati Bengals

Josh O: Tennessee Titans

Tim Peterson: Washington Redskins

Corn Dawg: Atlanta Falcons

Duane Barker: Detroit Lions

Juan Carlos: San Francisco 49ers

MannsJeff: Arizona Cardinals

MVL Guru: Dallas Cowboys

Zeke Prado: New York Jets

Bobby Madrid: Seattle Seahawks

CatsFan: Indianapolis Colts

Stay thirsty my friends…

200

Fanview Lite appears Monday thru Saturday at www.midvalleysports.com

Fanview, the HD version, appears every Tuesday at www.midvalleynewsonline.com

Good Morning!
