Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, 27, is out for the year with a back injury\u2026Remember when former USC linebacker Brian Cushing landed in Houston back in 2009? He was awesome\u2026the injuries mounted\u2026now he\u2019s 29, playing but banged up\u2026and not what he was before\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I know that\u2019s nothing new\u2026but football\u2026it\u2019s for keeps.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Former Arcadia quarterback Myles Carr, who originally signed with Fresno State and spent two years with the Bulldogs, is in his second year as the starting signal caller for D-2, Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 he threw for 2,293 yards and 21 touchdowns against only 11 picks. Through four games this year, Carr has passed for 1,052 yards and 11 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Former Bishop Amat standout and guest on the old Mid Valley Sports Show, Rio Ruiz picked up his first MLB hit last night with a triple for the Atlanta Braves.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>On this date in 1989, Bishop Amat had a 17-0 lead over Muir in the third quarter at Kiefer Stadium. Mustang quarterback Demetrice Martin (Coach Meat\/DB Michigan State\/St. Louis Rams practice squad\/Current UCLA DB Coach) hit Lamar Colbert for a 70-yard touchdown. Muir converted the deuce and it was 17-8 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Rich Hunt scored on a 2-yard run, and the PAT made it a 17-15 game. Then with three-seconds left on the clock and his receivers going deep, Martin hit running back Sam Williford at his own 40. Williford fought off Lancer defenders and then pitched the ball to Vince Milton who took it the remaining 60-yards to paydirt and a 21-17 Muir victory.<\/p>\n<p>Same night, at North Field, Rosemead quarterback Jesus Huerta threw a pair of touchdown passes to Chang Weisberg and John Vigil ran for two scores in the Panthers 28-15 win over Temple City.<\/p>\n<p>Both Temple City and Muir advanced to the semifinals in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams fell in the D-7 semis to Lompoc, 48-38, and their troublesome back Napoleon Kaufman who rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>The Mustangs, thanks to Carlton Greer\u2019s 4-yard touchdown run in overtime, defeated Thousand Oaks at Citrus College to advance to the D-2 finals.<\/p>\n<p>A week later Muir played Santa Barbara (at Santa Barbara City College) to a 7-7 tie\u2026It was the Mustangs last title appearance.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Is it just me or does it seem like the NFL Network spends more time on Fantasy Football than they do on real football?<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of dominance\u2026Rosemead owns a 40-3 all-time advantage over Mt. View\u2026Temple City owns a 26-0 all-time record over Duarte\u2026<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Something tells me the Chicago Cubs are cruisin for a bruisin\u2026<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Dominance one more time\u2026Over the course of the last three seasons, 30 games, Northview quarterback Steven Comstock has accounted for 85 touchdowns\u202654 passing and 31 rushing\u2026To give that some perspective\u2026Arroyo legend Steven Rivera (2008-2011) played in 44 career games and recorded 110 touchdowns while playing quarterback: 94 passing &amp; 16 rushing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Monrovia\u2019s Nick Bueno (2008-2010) played in 41 games and accounted for 76 touchdowns\u2026San Gabriel\u2019s Isaac Valdez (2007-2009) played in 34 games and was in on 68 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>I was asked if I was excited about the basketball season starting up&#8230;I laughed so hard you would have thought a Mel Brooks movie was on.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Former Temple City quarterback Paul Kosanovich is playing tight end at New Mexico Highlands and through four games has caught six passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>Also, on the same roster, is former Covina Colts standout Vinnie \u201cThe Dude\u201d Venegas. He\u2019s seeing time at wide receiver and running back. He rushed for 615 yards last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys are 0-4 this season.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Add New Mexico Highlands:<\/strong> Charlie Cowan, 15-year tackle with the Los Angeles Rams, went to New Mexico Highlands and was a 4th round pick of the Rams in 1961.<\/p>\n<p>From 1966 through 1975, Cowan and Tom Mack anchored the left side of the Rams offensive line. That\u2019s ten seasons\u2026Ken Iman was the center from 1965 through 1974\u2026Joe Scibelli was the right guard for 1961 through 1975\u2026That\u2019s how you build an offensive line\u2026that\u2019s how you have success\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I understand you can\u2019t replicate this in the 21st century-NFL\u2026But what you can do is stop over-investing in quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers and make the priority, every season, the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p>Uggh!
