Nogales QB Matthew Olguin led the Nobles to a big win over Duarte<\/p><\/div>\n

(La Puente) – The Nogales Nobles had little trouble dispatching the visiting Duarte Falcons Friday evening, as the Nobles scored 28 unanswered points to defeat the Falcons, 28-14, in front of the Homecoming crowd at Jack Jolley Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Falcons (6-3, 3-1) got off to a fast start, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter of play. The first score, a 61 yard run by senior RB Lorenzo Rios, came with 7:45 remaining in the period. Duarte\u2019s second TD was courtesy of senior RB Rodney Collier, who scored on a 17 yard sweep with\u00a048 seconds remaining in the\u00a0opening stanza.<\/p>\n

To the casual observer, the Falcons might have appeared to have the game in hand. But, this is the Montview League, where anything can happen.<\/p>\n

The Nobles (8-1, 3-1), came to life as the second quarter came to a close. The Nobles scored on a pass play, reminiscent of the famed \u201cTrojan Horse\u201d play that was emulated in the movie Friday Night Lights. In the Nogales version, QB Matthew Olguin tossed the ball to WR Lorenzo Williams, who passed to a streaking Olguin for a 25 yard TD completion, to end the second quarter of play to cut\u00a0the Duarte lead to 14-7.<\/p>\n

The second half was all Nogales. Olguin got\u00a0the opportunity to display his acting talents, as he scored on a pair of fake handoffs that fooled not only the Duarte defense, but the officials and this reporter as well. These runs were 9 and 10 yards, respectively. The games final score was provided by junior RB Andrew Carrazco, who scored on a 3 yard blast with 3:52 remaining in the contest.<\/p>\n

Nogales will close out their regular season next Friday, as the Nobles host the Sierra Vista Dons while\u00a0Duarte will\u00a0battle\u00a0Gladstone\u00a0at Citrus College. Kickoff for both games is\u00a07:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
