Arroyo won the\u00a0Mission Valley League title.\u00a0Ho hum, okay. The Knights seemingly do that every year. But this season they took it to a whole different level.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jim Singiser, in his 14th year at the helm, not only led Arroyo into the playoffs but all the way to a Division\u00a012 CIF championship and\u00a0a dramatic 35-34 win over Rancho Mirage.\u00a0Singiser made the call that led to the celebration\u00a0going for two in\u00a0overtime.\u00a0Ernesto Camacho hit Devin Knight in the corner of the end zone and\u00a0an out pouring of love\u00a0spilled out all over B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.<\/p>\n

“We were two, three yards away from a CIF title,” Singiser said\u00a0after the game.<\/p>\n

For Singiser it was the culmination of 14 years of hard work,\u00a023 if you count his years as an assistant, that finally resulted in him holding up the hardware for all the San Gabriel Valley to see.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Knights had to endure several bumps in the road along the way, including\u00a0an incident mid-way through the season\u00a0that saw the starting quarterback\u00a0suspended and paved the way for Camacho to step\u00a0in and take charge.<\/p>\n

The Knights weren’t going to be denied as they knocked off\u00a0Verbum Dei, Schurr and Segerstrom before the thrilling\u00a0championship victory at home.\u00a0They advanced to the State\u00a0Bowl\u00a0game\u00a0where they came up short to La Jolla Country Day.\u00a0Nobody\u00a0among the\u00a0Arroyo faithful will remember that\u00a0game however with the vision of a first CIF Championship in 30 years still dancing in their heads.<\/p>\n

And leading the dance was none other than Singiser,\u00a0who after staying at one school for over 20 years, a rarity these days in high school football,\u00a0was rewarded with a remarkable season that will forever be\u00a0remembered\u00a0in Arroyo football history.<\/p>\n

Jim Singiser\u00a0is\u00a0our Mid Valley Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n
