So the Rosemead head coaching vacancy has been filled. Or has it?<\/p>\n

I heard it was…was even given a name.\u00a0But then\u00a0was told it wasn’t and nothing was confirmed. The latest\u00a0is that\u00a0the new coach\u00a0will be announced next week.\u00a0Ok, we’re all on the edge of our seats.\u00a0Wait a minute, isn’t this the same thing that we’ve been hearing out of Los Altos?<\/p>\n

With Marc Paramo stepping down there are\u00a0now three former head football coaches on campus- Paramo,\u00a0Matt Koffler and Larry Hatley. Interesting. Before you start to wonder Hatley\u00a0reportedly was offered the job but turned it down. As for Koffler? He’s still waiting for the USC\u00a0job to open up again.<\/p>\n

One coaching job that has been filled and confirmed is the\u00a0assistant head coach\/DC\u00a0position at Mt. View. Jacob Ochoa,\u00a0former Alhambra DC and\u00a0an assistant at Monrovia last year has accepted\u00a0that job with the Vikings and\u00a0is looking forward to getting started.<\/p>\n

“It’s official. Time\u00a0to get to work,” Ochoa\u00a0posted on Facebook with\u00a0a Viking helmet prominently displayed.<\/p>\n

Contrary to popular\u00a0belief South El Monte running back Sal Tovar was present at the Eagles four-way throw last week at Arroyo.\u00a0I saw him with my own eyes. No he wasn’t playing,\u00a0he’s been involved in other sports,\u00a0but he was there. The important thing is that he hasn’t transferred to\u00a0Cathedral. Eagles HC Frank Gallardo\u00a0likes what he has coming back but is a little concerned\u00a0about his offensive line.\u00a0“We lost a lot of guys\u00a0up front,” he said.<\/p>\n

Didn’t expect to see that much noise\u00a0about Bell Gardens on the boards. The Lancers struggled mightily last season finishing 2-8 overall. But that wasn’t a surprise to head coach Margarito\u00a0Beltran. He knew what he was getting into when he took the job and he knew\u00a0it was gong to be a three to four year project.<\/p>\n

“We had a ton of sophomores last year, but I expect us\u00a0to be much better this season,”\u00a0Beltran said.\u00a0He paused and then said “But next year, in 2018 we’re going to be good…very good.”<\/p>\n

The “Red Devils Shootout” at Pomona High School Saturday June 3 is almost set. Most of the teams have\u00a0confirmed but they are just waiting to iron out a few final details.\u00a0Teams and schedules will be posted as soon as its official.<\/p>\n

**<\/p>\n

One head coaching vacancy\u00a0that has flown under the radar is Diamond Bar where\u00a0Marcus Hughes stepped down\u00a0after a three-year\u00a0run.\u00a0 The Brahmas\u00a0went 11-19 under Hughes\u00a0and they haven’t made the playoffs since\u00a02013\u00a0which was Ryan Maine’s\u00a0final year. That year Diamond Bar\u00a0blew out Downey in the first round of the Southeast\u00a0Playoffs before falling to\u00a0La Serna in the second round.\u00a0The Brahmas finished\u00a07-5 overall.<\/p>\n

Would Maine consider coming back?\u00a0 “Haha! There are plenty of candidates better than me out there. I hope they get a good one,” he said.<\/p>\n

Who are the candidates?\u00a0They were still conducting\u00a0interviews as\u00a0of the first week of April.\u00a0It’s still to be determined.\u00a0This is a recording.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former\u00a0Arcadia\/Buena Park assistant\u00a0Eric Elias is\u00a0officially\u00a0a free agent after\u00a0confirming last week that he has\u00a0left the Coyotes\u00a0staff. His status? Still to be determined.\u00a0Jude Oliva is still at Buena Park for now\u00a0but with a new head coach in place\u00a0he could be on the move as well.\u00a0His name has been mentioned\u00a0everywhere from El Monte to San Gabriel to\u00a0Rosemead but\u00a0he hasn’t budged.\u00a0Like everything else\u00a0in coaching circles these days…stay tuned.<\/p>\n

Don’t expect to see Temple City on the passing circuit anytime soon.\u00a0The Rams will pound the ball\u00a0and then pound it some more.\u00a0 “If\u00a0we were going to throw the ball\u00a035 times a game then yeah\u00a0we’d\u00a0go to passing leagues, but we don’t,” said first year head coach Riley Saxon. TC opens spring practice this week.<\/p>\n

So it looks like Aaron Hernandez is out for the year.<\/p>\n
