(Carson) – The Galaxy scored twice in the second half to erase\u00a0a 2-0 halftime deficit\u00a0and earn a 2-2 tie with Chicago Saturday night before 24, 256 at StubHub Center.<\/p>\n

A header by Daniel Steres in the 56th minute cut the lead to\u00a02-1 and in the 65th\u00a0Giovani dos Santos deflected a shot into\u00a0net to get LA even.<\/p>\n

Jelle Van Damme took down\u00a0Nemanja Nikolic\u00a0early in the first half to set up a\u00a0David Accam penalty kick.\u00a0Accam hit\u00a0the first one but it was\u00a0called back for encroachment. He then buried the next one in the 13th minute for a 1-0 Fire lead.<\/p>\n

A minute later Gyasi Zardes\u00a0got off a shot for the Galaxy\u00a0but booted it high over the crossbar. Chicago came right back down the field and Nikolic got open on the right side in the 16th minute and\u00a0punched it by Galaxy keeper Brian Rowe\u00a0who was caught out of position and just like that it was 2-0 Fire.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy had a couple of good opportunities\u00a0later in the half. In the 29th minute a cross was broken up right in front of the net.\u00a0In the 31st Bradley Diallo got the ball to Romain\u00a0Alessandrini who was blanketed by\u00a0Fire defenders but no penalty call was made.<\/p>\n

Jermaine Jones went down after being hit in the head off a\u00a0shot by Chicago’s\u00a0Joao Meira in the 38th minute. He was down for\u00a0about\u00a0two minutes before slowly rising to his feet. He left the game\u00a0in the 43rd\u00a0minute and was replaced by Emmanuel Boateng.<\/p>\n

Five minutes of additional time added in the first half.\u00a0The Galaxy down\u00a02-0 at the break. LA had zero shots in the first half.<\/p>\n

Dave Romney replaced Van Damme\u00a0late in the first half.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy finally broke\u00a0the drought\u00a0in the 56th minute as\u00a0Steres headed\u00a0in a cross from Alessendrini. It was the Galaxy’s first goal since the\u00a083rd minute\u00a0of the Orlando City match on April 15.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy came up with the equalizer in the\u00a065th minute when\u00a0dos Santos deflected an attempt by Romney into the net to tie it at two.<\/p>\n

Chicago nearly took the lead\u00a0in the 76th minute when Luis Solignac\u00a0hit the post and it bounced away from Rowe. In the 79th Zardes hit the side of the net\u00a0off of a cross by Diallo.<\/p>\n

Four minutes of additional time added but when neither team scored, they walked off\u00a0off the field in a 2-2 tie.<\/p>\n

“We became a team tonight. That’s the Galaxy team that you’ll see moving forward,”\u00a0said Galaxy coach Curt Onalfo.\u00a0“I think it was a galvanizing moment for our group.\u00a0It was a pretty darn good second half.\u00a0I told them at halftime that if we got just one goal the second one would come and we’d have an opportunity to turn this into possibly three points. But at a minimum\u00a0we’re walking out of here with one and that’s what we did.”<\/p>\n

Onalfo wasn’t pleased with his defense in the first half and it showed\u00a0when he pulled Van Damme for Romney\u00a0near the end of the half.<\/p>\n

“I expect our players to be right from minute one. And I’m the leader of the team and if guys aren’t\u00a0then I have to make substitutions to get our group to where it needs to be. I brought in Romney and he did a solid job.\u00a0We didn’t concede anymore and he created a lot of chances,” Onalfo added.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy moved to a record of 2-5-2\u00a0with the tie but their winless steak reached four. The Fire\u00a0is now 3-3-3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
