1. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook\u00a0is named\u00a0NBA MVP. Mike\u00a0D’Antoni of the Houston Rockets\u00a0receives Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n

2. Former Anaheim Ducks stars Paul Kariya\u00a0and Teemu Selanne are both elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. They will be inducted November 13 in Toronto.<\/p>\n

3. Defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been placed on the reserve list because of a non-football illness\u00a0designation by the New Orleans\u00a0Saints. Fairley, who has\u00a0had symptoms related to an\u00a0enlarged heart, won’t be playing in 2017\u00a0and perhaps beyond.<\/p>\n

4. Former New York Mets pitcher Anthony Young, 51,\u00a0has passed away. He\u00a0had recently\u00a0been diagnosed with a brain tumor.\u00a0Young lost 27 consecutive games from 1992-’93 which is still an MLB record.<\/p>\n
