Conventional football wisdom tells us that offense sells tickets, while defense wins games and championships This fact was proven at Rosemead High School Friday evening, as the visiting Northview Vikings outran, out passed, and outscored the host Rosemead Panthers, on their way to a 54-12 victory.<\/p>\n
The Vikings, who evened their season record at 1-1, opened the scoring early when Jamier Johnson intercepted a pass from Rosemead QB Alex Arguesta and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. Northview\u2019s defense would again torment Arguesta, as Joseph Castillo, Jr. returned another interception for a ten yard TD. The Vikings\u2019 final defensive score came on blocked field goal attempt. After the attempt was blocked, and touched by the Panthers, Vikings’ WR Nathan Amadeo scooped up the loose ball and ran for a 15-yard score.<\/p>\n
Not to be outdone, Northview\u2019s offense also had a productive evening, with Senior QB Steven Comstock making a multi-score contribution\u2026completing 8 of 16 attempts, for 210 yards and three touchdowns, in just one half of work. Comstock\u2019s targets for the evening were Damion Thompson (56 yards), Joseph Castillo, Jr. (24 Yards), and Jimmy Amezquita (42 yards). The Viking\u2019s running game also contributed, as RB Martin Guitierez scored on a one yard TD blast. The Vikings added a final rushing TD, courtesy of reserve QB James Jimenez, who scored on an 11 yard TD run.<\/p>\n
Rosemead, 0-2, got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter of play, as Arguesta connected for a pair of TDs. The first, a 34-yard strike to WR Justen Campbell, came with 10:46 remaining in the game. Rosemead\u2019s second score was a 53-yard pass, catch, and run to Sabastian Hernandez. In both cases, the 2 Point PAT attempts were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
Rosemead\u2019s next contest is scheduled for 9\/7\/17. The Panthers will host the Artesia Pioneers. Also on 9\/7\/17, the Vikings will return to the friendly confines of
