\n Hacienda League<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diamond Ranch (3-2) at Charter Oak (5-0) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Charter Oak 20-6\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

With a break here or there, Diamond Ranch could be 5-0. The Panthers lost their two games by a total of 10 points. Last week they racked up 56 on Bonita. They can play, no question. But the question is can they play with Charter Oak? Probably not. The Chargers, perennial contenders, have taken it to a new level this year. Their closest game was a 22 point win over Glendora. The only question these days is will Charter Oak run the table? Chargers stay unbeaten.<\/p>\n

Mission Valley League <\/strong><\/p>\n

South El Monte (6-0) at Arroyo (6-0)

Last Year: Arroyo 38-14<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, somebody is going to get its first loss. Whoever wins will go 10-0. That you can bet on. Neither team has shown many flaws so far. Arroyo was tested in the opener in a seven point win over 4-1 Covina. The Knights have been on cruise control ever since. Nobody has come close to South El Monte. The closest opponent was Alhambra who lost 24-7 back in Zero Week. The Eagles will give the Knights all they want. They may even grab an early lead. Sal Tovar will get his yards but the Knights are good at making adjustments. In the end the South secondary won’t be able to contain Ernesto Camacho. Camacho has thrown for nearly 1500 yards so far. He’ll get another 300 here. The Knights get it done.<\/p>\n

Pacific League <\/strong><\/p>\n

Burbank (3-2) at Arcadia (3-2) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Burbank 26-16\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both teams need a win to stay unbeaten in the Pacific. The Apaches showed some guts last week rallying to beat a good Burroughs team. They have the athletes and when they get in space on offense they’re tough to stop. The Bulldogs have rolled the last two weeks over lower level league teams Glendale and Hoover but when they played a solid Downey team earlier in the year they were routed 35-7. It could go either way. Arcadia is faster but Burbank is more physical. Burbank though, always seems to come up big in these situations. Bulldogs win close.<\/p>\n

Valle Vista League <\/strong><\/p>\n

San Dimas (3-2) at Covina (4-1) (Covina District Field)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: San Dimas 48-21 <\/strong><\/p>\n

San Dimas stubbed its toe twice earlier this year but seems to be back on track the last couple of weeks including\u00a0 a 40-16 thrashing of Cal last week. The Saints come at you with five or six guys that can pound the ball and have rushed for close to 2000 yards already this season. Covina’s only loss came at the hands of undefeated Arroyo but the Colts have been rolling ever since. Covina can score but can the Colts make enough stops to get over the hump? Eventually San Dimas’ ground attack will wear the Colts down. San Dimas pulls away in the second half.<\/p>\n

N<\/strong>orthview (3-2) at Baldwin Park (3-2) <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Northview 42-14<\/strong><\/p>\n

Northview is ready to get started on defending its Valle Vista League title. The Vikings have had a couple of losses but their opponents in those games, Charter Oak and Don Lugo, are a combined 9-1. Baldwin Park has a puncher’s chance but if they get down early the Braves will get knocked out. BP may bite somebody in league but it won’t be this week. Vikings win handily.<\/p>\n

San Gabriel Valley League <\/strong><\/p>\n

Paramount (4-1) at Downey (4-1)\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Downey 28-14<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two 4-1 teams battling for supremacy as they kick off the San Gabriel Valley League. Should be a good one. A win for Paramount would be huge sending a message to the rest of the league that it’s for real. Downey though is Downey. The Vikings took their lumps from Santa Margarita in the season opener but they have punched everybody in the mouth ever since. They had impressive wins in successive weeks over Hart and Burbank. They aren’t about to drop the league opener at home. Kijjon Foots, Baraq Ross and company get it done.<\/p>\n

Rio Hondo League <\/strong><\/p>\n

South Pasadena (4-2) at Monrovia (0-5) <\/strong><\/p>\n

L<\/strong>ast Year: Monrovia 46-16<\/strong><\/p>\n

Can South Pasadena pull something? That’s the question on everybody’s mind. The Tigers have been impressive. They shut out Alhambra 27-0 two weeks ago and on September 8 they routed Duarte 44-0. What’s going on in Monrovia? The Wildcats have given up a ton of points and they’re still looking for their first win. If they win suddenly they’re back in the groove and maybe the favorites to win the Rio Hondo. If they lose a bad season becomes disastrous. Something just doesn’t seem right though. Monrovia has had some injuries but even despite that things seem awry. A bad season gets worse.<\/p>\n

Almont League<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alhambra (2-2) at Montebello (3-2)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Year: Montebello 30-12\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alhambra is improved. The Moors have two wins already including holding off a tough Temple City team by three points. Montebello needs to make sure it doesn’t overlook Alhambra with Schurr lurking next week. The Oilers are still the defending champs in the Almont but they have, at times, not looked like the team of a year ago. Three weeks ago they suffered an ugly 35-7 loss at El Rancho. However Pete Gonzalez’ team should come out ready to play Friday night. They want to show that they are still the Almont Kings. Oilers win the league opener.<\/p>\n
