Bergstrom Stadium.

Junior quarterback, Ernesto Camacho led the way with four touchdown passes. Two to running back, Steven Ocariz and two more to wide receiver, Rey Cotero. Running back Daniel Mendoza added a final score in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.

The score is correct, 33-0, El Monte did get its butt-kicked. But for the first 23:58 of the game they gave as equally as they got.

After Arroyo took only 1:51 to score on the game’s first drive (Camacho 10-yards to Cotero), the two teams traded hits, flags, and frustration as each was hit with possession killing penalties.

A final Knights drive in the first half was halted on a turnover on downs, but the Lions coughed the ball up with 28 seconds left in the half…And Camacho made them pay. Ocariz, on a wheel-route, got behind his defender, hauled in a perfect spiral and danced to paydirt with two seconds remaining before the break.

In the third, El Monte wore down, made mistakes, got beat at the line of scrimmage and turned the ball over.

“We’re young, Joe,” El Monte HC, Jessie Ceniceros said. “We’re young.”

Scripture talks about not letting anyone despise your youth, young or not, the Knights put the screws to the inexperienced Lions. Camacho went 22-yards Ocariz. A minute and a half later, the talented quarterback went 30-yards down the middle to Cotero.

Arroyo is now 8-0 (4-0 in league) with Pasadena Marshall and Mountain View remaining on its schedule. The Knights have also won 15 consecutive regular-season games in a row. Their last perfect 10-0 regular season came in 2004. They were 10-0 in 1995 as well.

El Monte falls to 4-3 (2-1 in league) with Gabrielino, South El Monte and Rosemead left on the docket.

(El Monte)–After a tight first half, the Arroyo Knights broke open their Mission Valley League contest with the El Monte Lions in the second half and won, 33-0, at B.L.
