Right off the Top: Mid Valley Sports is not going anywhere. It covers the NFL, NCAA Division-1 football, NCAA Division-2 sports, and the Los Angeles Galaxy\u2026Oh, and CIF Football.<\/p>\n

Mid Valley Sports will continue on and into the future.<\/p>\n

\u2026But I\u2019m moving on.<\/p>\n

This is no big shock\u2026The last couple years I\u2019ve backed away from almost all of my duties with Mid Valley Sports\u2026And over the weekend I made some posts to confirm what was already out of the bag.<\/p>\n

I came in with Carlos Beltran in 1998\u2026and I depart with Carlos Beltran in 2017. He got his World Series ring\u2026I got to see Mid Valley Sports make it to the NFL. We both finished as pinch-hitters.<\/p>\n

The reason is simple\u2026I remain very involved pastoring my church in Burbank\u2026And I\u2019ve been writing books. My available time has shrunk, and I needed to choose which direction to take.<\/p>\n

So after twenty years of a lot of fun, taking a few insults, experiencing one threat (not really a threat\u2014but the coach was mad\u2026or at least in a bad mood\u2026), I\u2019m leaving The Mid\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been good all season knowing this was going to be it, but I have to say, I was a little verklempt the afternoon before the St. Francis final. Last roll out to a game, last time grabbing notebook & pens, last time I\u2019d have to decide between warmth, comfort, and the practical\u2026Last time I\u2019d have to get parking\u2026Last time on a sideline\u2026Last first-half, last quarter and last play\u2026<\/p>\n

It began with Temple City\u2019s Jamil Frazier racing 50-plus yards to paydirt and finished with a 37-yard field goal by Rancho Verde\u2019s Luis Santiago on December 1st.<\/p>\n

Honestly, none of this happens if\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026I\u2019m not told \u201cpaydirt\u201d is a cliche by an editor in the 1980’s who described a Monrovia boys basketball game as \u201cShowtime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026If Dana Baskin doesn\u2019t open the door.<\/p>\n

\u2026If Connie Keenan doesn\u2019t turn on the lights.<\/p>\n

\u2026If Peterson and Barker don\u2019t gun the engine.<\/p>\n

\u2026If the old Mid Valley office wasn\u2019t the “Caddyshack” of places to be during the football season\u2026If you weren\u2019t there, you\u2019ll never know\u2026But then again, maybe one of these days you will\u2026<\/p>\n

Too many people to mention, too many people to thank, and way too many memories to account for\u2026God has very much blessed me\u2026<\/p>\n

I hope to sit in the stands a few times next season\u2026I hope someday to stand and jaw with the clique of people on the sidelines\u2014The people who walk onto on a football sideline like customers used to walk into Cheers\u2026The place where everybody knows your name.<\/p>\n

I will be launching a website in 2018 for my books. I\u2019ll be posting \u201cFanviews\u201d there\u2026and I\u2019m going to keep writing.<\/p>\n

My third book (“FaithViews for Storm Riders”) has just come out\u2026I have other projects I’ll be releasing in the next few months.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also finished the rough draft of a follow up to \u201cTangent Dreams\u201d I hope to put out by next fall.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be spending time with my family (now I sound like a “retiring” coach).<\/p>\n

\u2026And I\u2019ll be preaching at my church in Burbank.<\/p>\n

Like the twenty years of mission trips to Mexico and my 32-years involved in summer camp\u2026This has been one of the best experiences of my life. I loved 98% of it\u2014Because there was a brief period when the Suits were saying volleyball and football coverage should be the same. (Jubilee Dunbar!)<\/p>\n

For me, I despised being referenced as a \u201cJournalist\u201d \u2026No way\u2026I was never a Journalist\u2026 I was\u2014and in my heart always be\u2014a Sportswriter.<\/p>\n

And now\u2026I belong to the ages\u2026<\/p>\n

The Dude abides\u2026<\/p>\n
