Something good came out of El Rancho High School Teacher Gregory Salcido’s anti-military rant to his history class recently.<\/p>\n

El Rancho head coach Adrian Medrano has decided to turn the Dons August 24 game against Bell Gardens as a charity fundraiser for our veterans and military. “El Rancho Football is partnering with @<\/s>SOFWarriorFnd<\/b><\/a> & our Aug 24 game vs @<\/s>BGYouKnow<\/b><\/a> will be a charity game where players and fans donate toward one of the highest rated Veterans and Military charities. #<\/s>bluepride”\u00a0 Medrano posted on Twitter.\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Although Salcido can state his opinion on anything he pleases under the right to free speech in our country, (that’s what our military has fought for) spewing that hate and vitriol to a group of impressionable high school kids is completely inappropriate. The bad language didn’t help either. Apparently the El Rancho Unified School District felt the same way. They placed Salcido on administrative leave on Monday as they move forward with an investigation of the incident.<\/p>\n

Good for them and great for Medrano and El Rancho football. I may have to bust out a “Marines” shirt for that game.<\/p>\n

Great hire for Bonita. It made perfect sense. Steve Bogan lives near the school and made it clear that the real reason that he stepped down at Maranatha was the long commute to and from work everyday. Bogan wasn’t burned out on coaching, he was burned out on Southern California traffic. It was a great fit for everybody. The talent is there as well. Bearcat quarterback J.P. Andrade threw for 2,985 yards and 25 touchdowns last year. Bogan could make a big splash right away.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see where Maranatha turns. Beautiful campus and great facilities and according to Bogan and previous coaches, the administration couldn’t be better. But with so many options for high school athletes these days, you wonder if Maranatha can attract the players to make the program a power. Losing a name coach like Bogan and the ever increasing price of tuition could be factor as well. The new coach and he administration both have a lot to consider before an agreement is reached.<\/p>\n

No news yet out of Mt. View. I’ve heard Ibis Aguilar’s name mentioned but nothing concrete. It would be an interesting hire. He’s familiar with the MVL having spent time at\u00a0 South El Monte and if nothing else his two years at Bonita provided him with more experience. Stay tuned…<\/p>\n

Also Still waiting for Diamond Bar, Whittier Christian, Baldwin Park, Monrovia, Glendora, Pomona and La Salle to announce their new head coaches. If I missed anybody let me know.<\/p>\n

It’s been three weeks and I still can’t figure out how the Rams lost to the Atlanta Falcons – especially at home. That being said the Rams are in good hands in the future with Sean McVay at the helm. If you’re a Rams fan I wouldn’t worry about OC Matt LaFleur bolting for Tennessee. McVay is calling all of the plays anyway.<\/p>\n

So I’m listening to 710AM ESPN sports talk radio today, (I know what was I thinking?) and on the week of the Super Bowl, the Blake Griffin deal, Alex Smith trade, etc. they’re talking about the greatness of Kobe Bryant – is he the best ever?, his 81 point game, his 60 point farewell game etc., etc. This went on for a good 15 minutes and\u00a0 when the segment ended the host said they would be right back to discuss further. True Story. The sad state of sports talk radio has reached a new low. Where have you gone Hacksaw Hamilton? Southern California turns its lonely eyes to you.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the Super Bowl I like the Patriots 28-24. I mean really don’t like the Patriots but I like them in this game. I can’t see Nick Foles beating Bill Belichick when the coach has had two weeks to prepare. MVP? Who else? I’m really going to go out on a limb here…Tom Brady.<\/p>\n

Yes it’s still football season regardless of what some hoops fanatics might say, but I did want to throw this out there. The Clippers need to finish what they started. If they’re going to rebuild why go halfway? They need to blow it up…blow it up real good. Trade DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams and fire Doc Rivers. Rivers’ time has passed and he has said he doesn’t want to coach a team in rebuild mode anyway. Give him the boot. Plus it will give the talking heads on radio something to talk about other than Kobe Bryant. Well, maybe.<\/p>\n
