The Wildcats have weapons and they were on display last week. Frank Hernandez came up huge. And Maury Rams, who was out last week with a concussion will be back as well. Covina lost a close one to Los Altos to start the season but since then the Colts have been on point. Should be a good one- maybe the best of the weekend. Covina wins at home.

Covina 31 Monrovia 27

Montebello (1-3) at La Serna (4-0) at California

There are several years that this would have been a good game. Not this year. La Serna is just too talented, too big and too tough. I’d like to say the Oilers keep it close but I don’t think that happens. The Lancers are a well oiled machine. La Serna, big.

La Serna 38 Montebello 10

Friday September 14

MVL

El Monte (3-1) at Rosemead (3-1)

League play kicks off in the Mission Valley and this one is key. Is El Monte for real and ready to take the next step? Can Rosemead, who has started off fast as well, get back to its winning ways and move up to the one of the top teams in the MVL? The Lions had the one hiccup against San Marino. Well it was more than a hiccup, more like a burp. But their offense has been dynamic and one that will be difficult for the Panthers to stop. Rosemead has had a nice start but a win over El Monte might be a little too much to ask. El Monte opens league with a win.

El Monte 35 Rosemead 21

Pacific

Crescenta Valley (3-0) at Muir (3-0)

Great way to kick off Pacific League action with two unbeaten teams squaring off. Both teams have been impressive racking up points with explosive offenses. The Mustangs had 13 players suspended for last week’s game against Rancho Christian after a brawl from the previous game and they still put up 55. They also looked good in a Zero Week win over Charter Oak. CV is…well CV. The offense is clicking and the Falcons are always well coached. This one should go right down to the wire. Muir makes a big play late and wins at home.

Muir 38 Crescenta Valley 35

Arcadia (1-2) at Burroughs (0-3)

Arcadia has lost two games but when the opponents are Cathedral and Hart that’s to be expected. The Apaches have athletes all over the field, as they say, and will be fine here. Burroughs hasn’t been able to get started. The Indians have given up 143 points in three games. This one could be over quick. Arcadia rolls.

Arcadia 42 Burroughs 14

San Marino (3-1) at Bell Gardens (2-2)

San Marino was expected to be tested by El Monte. Uh, not so much. The Titans lit it up for 76. last week they dropped 63 on Santa Fe. Beau Hobbie and the offense are in high gear. San Marino’s only loss was to undefeated Northview. Bell Gardens has been up and down. The Lancers have won their last two after falling short in their first two contests. They simply won’t have enough to keep up with San Marino. The Titans won’t put up 70 but they will pull away. San Marino wins in a rout.

San Marino 42 Bell Gardens 17

Alhambra (4-0) at South Pasadena (2-2)

Alhambra is 4-0 coming in to the surprise of many. The critics are saying that they haven’t played anybody but the goal is to beat the teams in front of you and the Moors have done exactly that. South Pas has a couple of wins but also two very bad losses. In the two games that they have lost, to El Monte and Arroyo, the Tigers have been outscored 111-13. The Moors will get this one and move to 5-0. They are simply better than the Tigers at this point in time. We’ll find out more about them next week when they play Schurr.

Alhambra 24 South Pasadena 17

Saturday September 15

Los Altos (2-2) at Northview (4-0) Covina District Field

Good game that will stand alone on a Saturday night. Los Altos is in the midst of a two game losing streak after winning its first two games, although the Conquerors have played some solid opponents in St. Paul and Glendora. Northview is a machine right now. The Vikings have outscored their last two opponents by the combined score of 86-6. Don Lugo was expected to be a challenge last week and Northview brushed the Conquistadors aside 35-0. Los Altos may battle for awhile, but right now the Vikes have too much.

Northview 38 Los Altos 21

[12816
10508
post-64716","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","tag-game-night
["GET
