{"id":67613,"date":"2019-09-19T20:54:49","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T03:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=67613"},"modified":"2019-09-20T05:09:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T12:09:00","slug":"el-monte-40-eagle-rock-13-3rd-qtr-117","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=67613","title":{"rendered":"El Monte Express Keeps Rolling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By George Hernandez<\/p>\n<p>(El Monte) &#8211; El Monte quarterback Joseph Herrera threw three touchdown passes leading the Lions to 54-26 victory over visiting Eagle Rock Thursday night.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On El Monte\u2019s first drive on third and long Herrera hit Davon Booth for a 54-yard touchdown pass to make it 8-0 after a two point conversion was good.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions kept their offense alive on their second drive pounding it on the ground and capping it off with a one-yard dive by Herrera making it 16-0.<\/p>\n<p>Eagles got on the board on their third possession when Daniel Zamora cut through the El Monte defense for a 19-yard trip to pay dirt.<\/p>\n<p>The El Monte double wing went to work and Booth took it in from 10-yards on a sweep to make it 24-7.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions got on the board again before the half when Herrera found booth in the end zone making it 32-7 with 1:28 left in the half.<\/p>\n<p>Eagle Rock scored two seconds before the half when Axel Ayers found Rio Ramos in the back of the end zone cutting into the lead at 32-13 after a missed two point conversion.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles recovered the onside kick with one second left in the half and threw it into the end zone where it was intercepted by Booth to end the half.<\/p>\n<p>Herrera found Booth again late in the third quarter from 47-yards out to make it 40-13. After a recovered fumble El Monte got on the board again when Abel Cueva found a hole and sprinted in from 42-yards out making it 47-13 early in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Ayers went back to work for Eagle Rock finding a wide open Jacob Martinez putting the score at 47-19.<\/p>\n<p>JJ Reyes got in on the action for the Lions hitting the back door on a pitch and taking to the house from 80-yards.<\/p>\n<p>Ayers got his third touchdown pass of the night when he hit Elias Espinoza with 59-seconds left in the game making it 54-26.<\/p>\n<p>Booth finished with 110-yards on the ground and 144-receiving, four touchdowns. Reyes hadsix carries for 104-yards and a score. Cueva led all rushers with 145-yards on 18-carries along with a touchdown and also completed a pass for 50-yards.<\/p>\n<p>Herrera finished 3 of 5 for 104 yards and three touchdown passes.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte had 541-yards of total offense.<\/p>\n<p>Ayers went 16 of 26 for 309-yards three touchdown passes and a interception for Eagle Rock. Zamora had 129-yards rushing. Martinez had eight receptions for 70-yards while Espinoza hauled in just three catches but had 165-yards.<\/p>\n<p>Ramon Ramirez and Albert Nuno led the El Monte defense with multiple sacks and tackles for losses.<\/p>\n<p>El Monte (5-0) will travel to Rosemead in two weeks to open Mission Valley League play.
