Our “One Year Ago” series moves into Week 9. Rosemead-Arroyo has been a great rivalry for decades and last year was no exception. Rich Whittington was on hand to take it all in as Ivan Ostry and the Panthers ran over the Knights on Friday night October 25, 2019.<\/p>\n

(Rosemead) – Quarterback Ivan Ostry had a big night for Rosemead Friday evening, as the Panthers defeated the visiting Arroyo Knights, 27-14, in front of a large crowd at Rod Marinelli Stadium.<\/p>\n
Ostry carried the ball for the Panthers, both literally and figuratively. He ran 24 times for 391 yards, including TD runs of 4, 75, and 80 yards. Ostry also connected with receiver David Padilla for a 23 yard scoring \u201ccatch and run\u201d. The remainder of the Rosemead scoring was provided by Angel Bernal, who converted 3 of 4 PAT attempts.<\/p>\n
Arroyo\u2019s scoring offense was provided by Adrian Calvillo, who carried the ball 27 times for 156 yards, including scoring runs of 2 and 3 yards. Ramiro Piza added the balance of the scoring, as he converted both of his PAT attempts. The Knights (4-5, 2-2 in Mission Valley League play) kept the game close throughout, but simply did not have
\nan answer for Ostry\u2019s running ability.<\/p>\n
With the win, Rosemead improves to 6-3, 2-2 in the Mission Valley league.<\/p>\n
Next Friday, 11\/1\/19, finds both of these teams at home, as they close out their Mission Valley League season. Arroyo will take on the Gabrielino Eagles, while Rosemead will do battle with the Mountain View Vikings.
