(West Covina) – It was head coach Mike Maggiore’s return to the sidelines for West Covina Friday night but the return was not a triumphant one as the Bulldogs fell to Chaffey 30-13.
<\/p>\n

“Right now due to delays and all that has been going on, we are probably where we would be midway through summer. I just glad that we are able to get out and play. It means a lot to these guys” commented coach Maggiore prior to the game.<\/p>\n

The teams traded possessions early to start the game and it wasn’t until 4:51 left in the opening quarter before either team got on the board.<\/p>\n

The Tiger’s Raymond Rodriguez broke a couple tackles and got loose on a 35-yard scamper to the endzone. Quarterback Damian Tapia called his own number for the two-point conversion.<\/p>\n

West Covina answered back with a score of their own on a 42-yard pass play. The extra point was no good and the Bulldogs trailed 6-8 with 9:24 left in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Chaffey extended their lead to 16-6 midway through the second frame. It was Rodriguez again but this time on a 71-yard jolt to paydirt. Tapia again added the two-point conversion.<\/p>\n

The score remained the same until the third quarter when the Tigers mounted a 15 play 65 yard scoring drive that burned almost eight minutes off the clock. Rodriguez got number three this time on a three yard run. Tapia of course did the honors again for the deuce.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez had a stellar night rushing for 209 yards on 22 carries with four scores. The fourth came with 6:23 left in the fourth.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs best drive on the night came as time was winding down. Drew Hall capped a 10-play drive that covered 67-yards with an eight yard run to the corner of the endzone. Hall was not going to be denied as he broke free of a couple tackles en route to the the goaline.<\/p>\n

West Covina will take on Glendora next week at West Coving High School. The game will be a home game for Glendora as Citrus College’s stadium is not available for the Tartans.<\/p>\n\n\n
