(La Puente)- \u201cIt\u2019s just a tough situation and I was concerned for the kids,\u201d said new Bassett football coach Aubrey Duncan.<\/p>\n
Duncan, the schools head track coach for the last five years, was was runner up this spring to Craig Cieslak for the Olympians job.<\/p>\n
Cieslak quit last week, leaving the program in serious limbo and down to a dozen players in the first week of June.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited about the position and the good group of people here that I will be working with, but now I\u2019ve got to put together a staff,” said Duncan. “Everyone that was out there is already gone and I\u2019ve got to find an OC, DC, and the rest of the staff.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have to talk about that now do we?\u201d Said the amiable Duncan when asked about his age.<\/p>\n
Insight on Duncan\u2019s age is found is bio. He played for Tom Hamilton, the late football coach who led Pasadena High through the 60\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a great man,\u201d said Duncan of Hamilton. \u201cOne of my best friends, he was like a father to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also played at Cal State when football was still being played at the college.<\/p>\n
In the early 1970\u2019s Duncan was in and out of NFL camps as defensive back. After failing to stick with the Rams and Chargers, he found a home in the World Football League.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was there for two seasons, and suffered pretty bad knee injury.\u201d<\/p>\n
Duncan\u2019s claim to fame since has been his involvement in womens football. First as part of the staff of the Los Angeles Dandelions after his playing days and most recently heading up the L.A. Amazons, which features locals Tamar Hill and Jennifer White.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a tough situation but we\u2019re going to make it work,\u201d said Duncan who will be a guest on \u201cThe Mid Valley Sports Show\u201d on June 22nd.<\/p>\n
