A loss means you’re 0-2 with virtually no shot at the playoffs. Both teams have had forgettable seasons. A win here will make it a little brighter. Both teams have lost seven straight after winning their openers but they’ve both had their moments. Los Altos lost to undefeated Monrovia by only three points. Diamond Ranch led St. Paul at halftime before stumbling in the second half. It could come down to a kick in the fourth quarter. The Conquerors salvage the win.

Los Altos 20 Diamond Ranch 17

Friday October 22

Schurr (5-3) at Montebello (1-7)

This game is always entertaining with only a nine iron separating the two schools. It’s been a struggle all year for Montebello while Schurr has won four of its last five. The Spartans also have their eye on an Almont League title. This is a Schurr thing. Spartans in a rout.

Schurr 35 Montebello 10

Alhambra (3-5) at San Gabriel (7-1)

Everything changed with Bell Gardens’ rout of San Gabriel last week. It left the Almont wide open with all four of the top teams in play. Will San Gabriel bounce back from that big loss to BG or will Alhambra use the momentum from last week’s win over Montebello to beat the Mats and stay in the race? The Matadors should rebound from a bad night. Alhambra’s defense has had trouble making stops all year. San Gabriel comes out early, makes a statement and never looks back.

San Gabriel 42 Alhambra 17

La Serna (6-2) at El Rancho (9-0)

This is the game of the week. It’s been the hot topic of conversation on the MVS boards for the last two months. El Rancho is undefeated while La Serna’s two losses are to teams, Bonita and Warren, that have a combined record of 14-1. The Lancers have a couple of impressive wins as well including a victory over Culver City three weeks ago. One or two big plays will decide this game. A turnover could be the difference. La Serna has enough and holds off the Dons in the end to secure the Del Rio League title.

La Serna 31 El Rancho 27

Bonita (7-1) at Ayala (7-1)

The Mountain West title is at stake here. Again in a four team league when each team is 1-0 this one is crucial. Ayala has only lost to unbeaten Glendora while Bonita lost by four points to a 7-1 Downey team. Another game that could come down to a key turnover late in the game. The Bearcats come up with a big play and a big win at the end.

Bonita 24 Ayala 17

Northview (3-5) at San Dimas (6-2)

Northview beat Diamond Ranch last week to get off on the right foot in the Valle Vista. San Dimas took care of Los Altos last week in what turned out to be a one-score game. The question here is can the Vikings stop the run? If they can’t it will be long night for Northview in San Dimas. The Saints will continue to pound it until they break through. Too much ground and pound for the Vikes. Saints run their way to a win.

San Dimas 34 Northview 14

Burroughs (3-4) at Muir (6-1)

Burroughs is coming off a tough Pacific League loss to Crescenta Valley. Word on the street early was that Muir was down and wouldn’t compete in the Pacific. Well here we are eight weeks later and the Mustangs are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league. The Stangs only loss was to a 6-1 St. Francis team. Muir is looking forward to the “Turkey Tussle” next week with league leader Pasadena. Mustangs in a rout.

Muir 35 Burroughs 7

Arcadia (3-4) at Pasadena (6-2)

If you’re going to the game go ahead and make dinner plans as well. You’ll be out of there early. Pasadena will score early, late and often. This one will be over by halftime. The Bulldogs are tuning up for the Tussle as well next week with Muir at the Rose Bowl.

Pasadena 49 Arcadia 7

[12816,3

post-74001","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports
["GET
