{"id":74334,"date":"2021-11-05T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-06T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=74334"},"modified":"2021-11-06T00:00:52","modified_gmt":"2021-11-06T07:00:52","slug":"kares-take-down-chargers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=74334","title":{"rendered":"Kares Take Down Chargers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By George Hernandez <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Covina)- Rio Hondo Prep a school of 90 students got its biggest 11-man football win with a 37-30 victory over Charter Oak who has around 1300 students, Friday night at Lou Farrar Field.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Chargers got the ball to start the game and was forced to punt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kares went on a seven minute march up the field and running back Jonathan Guerrero capped it off with a 7-yard touchdown, a two point conversion made it 8-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charter Oak answered two minutes later when Vincent Farrar hit a open Zakkarii Black who took it 37-yards to paydirt to make it 8-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rio Hondo Prep\u2019s Gio Ortega didn\u2019t waste any time scoring taking the kickoff 95-yards making it 15-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chargers would punt again, but their defense would go to work forcing a punt. A bad snap over the head of the kicker out of the back of the end zone gave Charter Oak a safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charter Oak then scored again taking a 16-15 lead when Sam Mason juked a few defenders and took it 36-yards to the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kares didn\u2019t let that last long as they pounded the ball up the field and Guerrero took it in from just inches out making it 23-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two teams exchanged punts going into halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rio Hondo Prep added to their lead early in the second half on its second play as Damyan Diaz found a wide open Ryan McCulloch who sprinted into the field end zone from 58-yards out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chargers run game finally broke a big one when Black shifted through the defense and scored a 55-yard touchdown at 11:04 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kares ate up eight minutes of the clock and scored on another run by Guerrero his third of the night making it 37-23 at 2:59 left in the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charter Oak had a turnover on downs and Rio Hondo Prep punted on its next drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chargers cut into the lead again early in the fourth quarter when Black scored on another 55-yard run putting the score at 37-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kares ran another eight minutes of the clock but turned the ball over on downs with just over two minutes to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charter Oak\u2019s last shot was picked off on fourth and five by Diaz who could of scored but went to the one yard line and took a knee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rio Hondo Prep ran out the clock and knocked the Chargers out the playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kares move on in the Division 7 playoffs and face 9-2 St. Pius X next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By George Hernandez (Covina)- Rio Hondo Prep a school of 90 students got its biggest 11-man football win with a 37-30 victory over Charter Oak who has around 1300 students, Friday night at Lou Farrar Field.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[12816,3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-74334","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/74334","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=74334"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/74334\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":74335,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/74334\/revisions\/74335"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=74334"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=74334"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=74334"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
