Andrew scored twice in a matter of three minutes in the third. St. Paul had the ball to open the third but the Vikings intercepted quarterback Andrew Maushardt and set up shop at the St. Paul 43. Eight plays later Andrew scooted into the endzone from three yards out to give Downey a 23-14 lead with 7:33 left.

The Vikings forced a St. Paul punt on the next possession. Andrew fielded the punt and raced 84 yards for a touchdown and just like that it was 30 -14 Downey with 4:36 left in the quarter.

The Swordsmen still had hope after Jesse Riperto booted a 25 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. But Andrew ended all hope three minutes later when he sprinted right through the St. Paul defense for a 51-yard touchdown run to put the Vikes up 37-17 with 6:36 left.

Just for a little gravy Andrew scored on a six-yard jaunt later in the quarter for his fourth touchdown of the night. Andrew finished with 81 yards and 3 touchdowns on 9 carries to go along with the 84-yard punt return for a score.

St. Paul scored on the last play of the game on a 1-yard run by Anthony Osorio for the final tally of the night.

While Andrew was doing the running Aidan Chiles was doing the throwing. He threw a 15-yard touchdown strike to Bryant Carey in the second quarter to give Downey the 17-14 lead at the break. Chiles had 21 completions on the night for 254 yards and the one touchdown.

Downey took a 10-0 first quarter lead on a 28-yard field goal by Isaac Madrid and a 2-yard run by Jaylen Crutchfield.

The Swordsmen responded with an 85-yard kickoff return a for a score by Orlando Zepeda and a 20-yard touchdown run by Chris Melendez in the second quarter for a four-point advantage.

Downey then scored the next 23 points to put it away. Carey hauled in 9 catches for 110 yards and the touchdown to join Andrew and Chiles to form the three-headed monster on offense.

Zepeda sparked St. Paul with 4 catches for 43 yards and the long touchdown on the kickoff return but it wasn’t enough.

Downey has now won four straight and is 4-1 on the season. St. Paul dropped to 2-3.

By Tim Peterson (Santa Fe Springs) – Keion Andrew scored four touchdowns, all in the second half to lead Downey to a 44-23 win over St. Paul Friday night at The Pit.

[12816,3

post-77132","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports
["GET
