(Glendale) – The South El Monte Eagles got \u201chealthy\u201d this week, defeating the host Glendale Nitros, 34-0, Friday evening at Glendale High\u2019s Moyse Stadium.

The Eagles, who have been dealing with injuries, saw the return of several key players, allowing South El Monte to successfully execute their game plan on both sides of the line f scrimmage.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eagles provided the first score of the evening, when quarterback Tony Aguilar connected with receiver Chris Vasquez for a 21-yard touchdown. Vasquez also converted the PAT attempt, making the score 7-0, with 6:20 remaining in the game\u2019s first quarter.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South El Monte continued their scoring surge into the second quarter, as Alexander Ramos found the end- zone on a 2-yard TD blast. Additionally, Aguilar and Vasquez connected for second time\u2026a 20-yard catch and run\u2026for another
Eagle score. Two more Vasquez PAT\u2019s made the score 21-0, South El Monte, as the first half came to a close.

Glendale made a bit of noise at the beginning of the second half, putting together a 15-play, 72-yard drive, which consisted of 13 rushing attempts by Joseph Caballero. The drive eventually stalled, as the Nitros were unsuccessful on a fourth and 7-pass attempt.

Caballero finished the evening with 158 yards on 28 rushing attempts. South El Monte added a pair of scores in the fourth quarter. Michael Valencia scored on a 1-yard TD run. Aguilar also got into the running game, scoring on a 2-yard touchdown scamper. The Vasquez point after made the score 34-0, Eagles, as the game came to an end.

Defensively, the game provided a couple of noteworthy accomplishments. Late in the first half, Glendale DB Alex Guerrero intercepted a pass from Aguilar. Not to be outdone, Eagles’ standout Vasquez \u201cpicked off\u201d Nitros’ quarterback Jonathan Wells.

Glendale\u2019s next game is scheduled for 9\/30\/22, when the Nitros travel to Kare Park to play Rio Hondo Prep. South El Monte\u2019s next game, also on 9\/30, finds the Eagles at home against the Rosemead Panthers, in their Mission Valley League opener.
