(Covina, CA) The Covina Colts squared off with their neighbors to the south, got a big night from Joseph Rangel and defeated the South Hills Huskies soundly 40-14 Friday night at Covina District Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Colts wasted little time getting on the scoreboard going 36-yards on three plays with Joseph Rangel scoring on an 18-yard scamper. The extra point was missed and Covina had an early 6-0 lead with 9:32 to play in the opening period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The score remained 6-0 until late in the second quarter. Jake Duronslet called his own number from 9-yards away to cap a 6-play 66-yard drive. This time the extra point was blocked but the Colts still held a 12-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duronslet and Rangel finished off the scoring in the first half when Duronslet found Rangel in the flat and Rangel did the rest going 45-yards to paydirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Covina got the ball to start the second half and promptly marched 61-yards on eight plays. Rangel again finished off the drive with a 6-yard run. Matthew Gutierrez this time split the uprights giving Covina a 27-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Huskies showed life on their ensuing drive getting the momentum to go 74-yards on eight plays with Sebastian Morinaga weaving his way through the Colt defense on an 11-yard scoring run. Jonathan Barragan added the extra point for the Huskies first seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colts extended their lead back to 26 points going 40-yards on 11 plays with Rangel getting his fourth score on the night on a four yard run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 11:06 left to play South Hills would get as close as were going to get on the evening on a five yard run by Matthew Moreno. Barragan again added the extra point and the Huskies trailed 33-14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colts took their time on their next scoring drive grinding up yardage on the ground during a 14 play drive that consumed more than eight minutes off the clock. Jacob Perez, who came on in relief of Rangel finished off the drive with a 14- yard run to seal the victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the night Rangel had 153-yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns and also hauled in two passes for 52-yards and another touchdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up next for the Colts is a contest with the visiting Diamond Bar Brahmas and things don\u2019t get any easier for the Huskies when they face the Northview Vikings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
