It gets even tougher this week. Damien, right now, is on a different level. The Spartans didn’t play their best football last week and still beat Charter Oak 35-0. Ayden Gutierrez and the Spartans have too much for the Lancers.

Damien 34 La Serna 20

Los Altos (3-1) at California (0-5)

Cal needs to get back on track. The Condors were routed by Covina in Zero Week and haven’t been able to recover since. In four of their five losses they have given up more than 40 points. Los Altos suffered its first loss last week to Jurupa Hills but have been solid this season with wins over competitive opponents West Covina and Walnut. Monrovia was punched in the mouth by Northview last week while San Dimas ran over Sunny Hills. Should be a close game with the Saints running game vs the Wildcats passing attack. Expect a few lead changes, especially early, as the two teams exchange blows. The Saints survive some Monrovia offensive explosions but eventually settles in and grinds out a win. San Dimas by a field goal.

San Dimas 34 Monrovia 31

Temple City (3-1) at San Gabriel (2-2)

San Gabriel has been up and down. The Matadors have two big wins, sandwiched around a couple of losses. Last week the Mats routed Whittier 46-0. Temple City lost its first game last week after three straight wins – a close 17-14 loss to Pasadena Poly. Both teams can score. It will come down to who can make the most stops. San Gabriel will make the ones that count. SG wins close.

San Gabriel 27 Temple City 24

West Covina (4-1) at El Rancho (2-3)

El Rancho started off fast but the last three weeks have been a struggle. The Dons have been outscored 113-33 in their last three losses. West Covina has been impressive at times. The Bulldogs have just one loss, Week one to Los Altos, but they have grinded out victories in their other four games. El Rancho needs to keep it close and then try to steal it in the fourth quarter. That’s a lot easier said than done. West Covina wins handily.

West Covina 31 El Rancho 7

Torrance (3-1) at Rio Hondo Prep (Kare Park)

Rio Hondo Prep is always fun to watch. Torrance has won three out of four and last week the Tartars crushed Garden Grove 41-0. RHP battles to the end but ultimately Torrance has too much.
