Damien still hasn’t been beaten by anybody. There will be talent all over the field in this one. It will be close into the fourth quarter. Damien makes a big play late to secure the victory. Keep an eye on Ayden Gutierrez for the Spartans. The dude can play.

Damien 27 Upland 24

Diamond Ranch (6-0) at Colony (3-3)

Everybody thought the Diamond Ranch streak would end last week but the Panthers are still unbeaten after an overtime win over Glendora. Colony has split its six games but fell last week to Roosevelt (Eastvale) 38-31. Diamond Ranch is on a roll. The Panthers beat Glendora and should have enough to beat Colony. D-Ranch improves to 7-0.

Diamond Ranch 24 Colony 20

Northview (5-1) at Bonita (5-0) (Thursday September 28)

Great game. Both teams are having memorable years. Northview stumbled once in Las Vegas, (haven’t we all?) while Bonita is still undefeated. Both teams have played Monrovia and both teams have dropped 50 plus on the Cats. Expect a lot of points as they both can score. My only question about this game is why is it on Thursday night? This has Friday night lights written all over it. Bonita survives a shootout.

Bonita 42 Northview 38

Ayala (2-3) at Glendora (4-2) (Citrus College) (Thursday September 28)

Another fun one on Thursday night. Both teams lost to Etiwanda and both teams have beaten Chino Hills. The Tartans will be fired up after losing a tough one last week. They would like nothing better than to go into league play with a victory. Glendora gets a stop when needed and wins a close one in the fourth quarter.

Glendora 30 Ayala 27

Friday September 29

South El Monte (5-0) at El Monte (1-4)

The Eagles have won some close games and have won some routs but they have won all of their games. El Monte won its opener but has lost four straight since. The Lions have also given up 45 points or more in all four losses. El Monte will have trouble stopping South. The Eagles win the Griffin Bowl.

South El Monte 38 El Monte 21

Muir (3-2) at Crescenta Valley (4-1)

This is a key game in the Pacific and it comes in the league opener. CV has lost just once and has won its last three games. Muir is coming off a 33-20 loss to a tough Norte Vista team. The Mustangs should have enough to win but this is the type of game that the Falcons could jump up and bite you. The Stangs should win if they can avoid mistakes. CV falls just short.

Muir 21 Crescenta Valley 20

San Marino (4-1) at South Pasadena (5-0)

South Pasadena isn’t just looking to grab a playoff spot this year, the Tigers are looking to win the Rio Hondo. They have been impressive so far including a big win over Schurr in Zero Week. San Marino can play too. The Titans have won four of out of five with their only loss coming at the hands of Crescenta Valley. Could come down to a late kick. Tigers remain unbeaten.

South Pasadena 31 San Marino 28

Schurr (4-1) at San Gabriel (3-2) (Thursday)

Schurr looks like the team to beat in the Almont this year. The Spartans aren’t about let San Gabriel get in their way in the league opener. San Gabriel has been up, a 46-0 win over Whittier, and down, a 35-14 loss to Cantwell.
