Downey hasn’t lost since Zero Week. Since then the Vikings have ripped off six straight wins. This is one of the best rivalries in Southern California and now the players have the chance to perform on the grandest stage that is SoFi Stadium. They should put on a show. It will be back and forth with both teams trading punches. Downey will be the last team standing.

Downey 31 Warren 28

Bonita (6-1) at Ayala (3-4)

Big game for both teams as they open Mountain West League play. Ayala fell short last week in a tough game against San Clemente while Bonita was rolling over Sierra Vista. Ayala has played a tough schedule which will have the Bulldogs ready for league. Bonita has just one loss but that was courtesy of a solid Northview team. Ayala’s defense will do its part to keep Bonita in check. The offense does the rest. Ayala wins.

Ayala 27 Bonita 21

Thursday October 12

Burroughs (6-1) at Arcadia (5-2)

After last week’s win over Muir Burroughs looks like the best team in the Pacific League. The Bears are having an outstanding season so winning six of seven games. Arcadia has won big in its last two games but Burroughs will be maybe the best team the Apaches have played all year. With the win over the Mustangs last week Burroughs has its eye on a Paciifc League title. The Bears keep marching towards that goal.

Burroughs 31 Arcadia 21

Friday October 13

Monrovia (3-3) at La Canada (3-4)

Both teams are trying to bounce back from tough losses. La Canada let a 17-0 lead get away in a loss to San Marino while Monrovia was humbled by South Pas 56-28. It’s also a game that both teams need to stay in the hunt in the Rio Hondo. Expect a shootout. Monrovia has had trouble making stops at times allowing over 50 points in each one of its three losses. La Canada will give Monrovia all it can handle. Last week Monrovia’s defense bended and ultimately did break. Against the Spartans the Wildcats will eventually make the stops needed. M-Town survives.

Monrovia 42 La Canada 35

Chino (6-1) at Covina (6-1) (Covina District Field)

Good game to open Sierra League play. Covina and Chino are the two best teams in the Sierra so this one could be for the League title. Covina has answered the call every week this year. The Colts only loss was to Northview and that was by only two points. Chino, 6-1 as well, has only lost to Diamond Bar. Covina jumps out early and never relinquishes the lead. Chino rallies but falls just short.

Covina 38 Chino 35

Northview (6-1) at San Dimas (4-3)

Northview looks like a team that is ready to make a serious run. The Vikings have been up to every challenge so far and now get their first Valle Vista League game. Their only loss was in Las Vegas to a good Sierra Vista team. San Dimas and Monrovia have two common opponents – Bonita and Monrovia. The Saints lost to both of those teams while Northview beat them both. This year the Vikes just have too much. Northview rolls.

Northview 34 San Dimas 14

Diamond Ranch (6-1) at Los Altos (5-2)

Another big Valle Vista League game. Diamond Ranch just suffered its first loss last week to Colony while Los Altos has just two losses all year. Last week the Conquerors shut out Nogales 48-0. With the Valle Vista consisting of only four teams, and four quality teams at that, every league game is crucial. The Panthers are looking to get back on track after last week’s loss. It’s really a toss-up. Both teams are evenly matched. Diamond Ranch wins…close.

Diamond Ranch 27 Los Altos 24

Charter Oak (1-6) at Alta Loma (1-6)

It’s hard to imagine a game where both teams are 1-6 being important but here we are. Because even though both teams have only won one game all season neither one has played a league game. If Charter Oak or Alta Loma can win a couple of games in the Mountain West starting with this one they could sneak in the playoffs. Whoever loses this one can pretty much write off the season. Alta Loma hasn’t been competitive in any of its six losses. The Braves lost 40-3 to West Covina, 41-7 to Colony and 47-0 to Hesperia. Charter Oak has had some tough moments as well but two of their losses were by a total of five points. This is a game the Chargers should get. It will be close but Charter Oak comes out on top.

Charter Oak 24 Alta Loma 14

Quick Hits

Thursday October 12

Colony at South Hills (Covina District Field) – Colony

Diamond Bar at Nogales – Diamond Bar

Arroyo vs. Mt.
