Based on Arroyo’s performance, the location did not make a bit of difference. Arroyo started the game off with a bit of trickery, attempting an on-side kick on the game’s opening kickoff. The gamble was successful, as the Knights Daniel Aviles successfully recovered the attempt. Arroyo capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a few seconds later, as Running Back Adam Huizar found paydirt on a 23-yard run. The PAT was added by Kicker Jorge Lopez, making the score 7-0 with 10:45 remaining in the opening quarter.

This was only the beginning of Arroyo’s scoring in the quarter. The Knights added a second running score when RB Lelan Garcia found the endzone on a 5-yard blast. A second successful Lopez PAT made the score 14-0 with 8:23 remaining in quarter number one.

The Knights also added three passing scores before the first quarter ended. The first came on a “double pass” that saw Quarterback Dillon Seguin throw to Running Back Joe Reyes, who then connected with Javier Ramos for a 43-yard catch-and-run. The second came on a more traditional Seguin to Receiver Kurt Dominguez 38-yard connection. The third was a second Seguin to Dominguez 14-yard scoring strike. Three more Lopez PATs made the score 35-0 after one quarter.

The second quarter showed that Arroyo could also score on defense and special teams. Dominguez got the ball rolling, scoring on a 48-yard fumble recovery. Not to be outdone, teammate Romeo Arevalo got into the scoring game by returning a Mt. View punt sixty-five yards for a touchdown. The offense also scored in the second, as Wide Receiver Sebastian Serrano scored on a 39-yard “end-around”. Three more Lopez PATs made the score 56-0 as the first half came to a close.

There was no scoring in the game’s third quarter. Turnovers, and a running clock, ensured that each team only possessed the ball once in the period.

Mt. View opened the scoring in the game’s final quarter, as Running Back Everardo Nunez scored on a 19-yard run. The PAT was added by Herson Gasca, making the score 56-7 with 10:29 remaining in regulation. Arroyo countered as Arevalo scored on a 4-yard TD run. Lopez added his 9th PAT of the evening making the score 63-7 with 5:33 remaining on the clock.

Mt. View added their second score of the night when Victor Roman scored on a 25-yard scamper. Another Gasca PAT made the score 63-14 as the game ended.

Arroyo’s next game is on Friday, 10/20 when the Knights travel to the “Swamp” to battle the south El Monte Eagles, in what should determine the Mission Valley Championship. Mt. View’s next challenge, on Thursday, 10/19, is a road-trip to El Monte, where the Vikings will play the Lions. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

By Rich Whittington (Rosemead) – The Arroyo Knights wasted little time securing a victory Thursday evening, defeating the visiting Mt.
