After Mayfair punted on its first possession Marin Catholic set up shop at the Mayfair 21 yard line after a punt return and a penalty. On the first play of the series Peter Macaulay ran right up the middle on a quarterback draw for a touchdown.

DJ Johnson grinds out some yards for the Monsoons. The extra point was missed but that was two possessions and two scores and with 7:49 left in the first quarter it was 13-0 Marin Catholic.

Early in the second quarter Charles Lewis booted a 36-yard field goal to make it 19-0.

The Monsoons, after three punts and a turnover on their first three possessions, finally got on the board. Jeremiah Calvin connected with Sean james Jonas for a 56-yard score with 8:35 left in the quarter.

Mayfair quarterback Jeremiah Calvin had 222 yards through the air. Charles Williams took a pass from Macaulay and raced 45 yards for a touchdown and just 36 seconds after the Monsoons had scored the lead was back to 19 at 26-7 Wildcats.

Ryan Heredia capped an 82-yard drive with a 13-yard run later in the quarter and Mayfair was back within 12.

However just as it did on the previous score Marin Catholic had an answer. Short went long and hauled in a 39-yard dart from Macaulay to make it 32-14 with just over two minutes left in the first half. The Wildcats took that lead into the break.

Marin Catholic picked up right where it left off in the third quarter. Williams, who had a big night on both sides of the ball, cruised into the endzone on an eight-yard run and it was 38-14. There were still over eight minutes left in the third but that was all she wrote.

The Wildcats pulled their starters and played mostly the twos in the fourth quarter. They had two bad snaps on consecutive possessions resulting in two safeties for Mayfair for the final points of the night.

The Monsoons punted three times in the second quarter and Williams had another pick for Marin Catholic, his second of the night.

Williams ran for 74 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and also caught two passes for 102 yards and a score for Marin Catholic. He also had a pair of interceptions. Short had 4 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.

For Mayfair james Jonas grabbed nine passes for 139 yards and a touchdown.

Despite the loss it was a memorable year for Mayfair. They won the Division 7 CIF championship and finished with an overall record of 12-4.

Marin Catholic can boast about a Division 3-A title and an overall record of 14-1.

By Tim Peterson (Torrance) – Mayfair fell behind 19-0 in the first half and could never recover in a 38-18 loss to Marin Catholic Saturday night in the CIF Division 3-A State Championship at El Camino College.

[12816,3

post-82351","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-hsfootball","category-high-school-sports
["GET
