Contreras added an interception on defense for good measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also getting in on the scoring barrage were Jordan Bonilla, Kaimana Tufaga, and Grady Long, each scoring a touchdown on the ground. Long had one through the air as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things didn\u2019t start out too well for La Serna as Rio Mesa jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a 12-yard run by Isaiah Bautista and a 23-yard pass from JJ Bittner to Dylan Valdez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With less than a minute to play in the opening frame, the Lancers got on the board with a 12-yard run by Jordan Bonilla. With Landon Armenta\u2019s extra point, La Serna Trailed 14-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"829\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1.jpg 829w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1-243x300.jpg 243w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1-57x70.jpg 57w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1-768x949.jpg 768w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A2982-1-121x150.jpg 121w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 829px) 100vw, 829px\" \/><figcaption>Kaimana Tufaga found paydirt twice for La Serna in the win over Rio Mesa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>La Serna only needed three plays to pull within a point traveling 54 yards on three plays with Contreras getting his first on the night from 39 yards out. Armenta\u2019s kick was blocked leaving the score a 14-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lancers grabbed their first lead on the night when they completed another three-play, 54-yard drive, this time Long called his own number from seven yards out. La Serna completed the two-point conversion on a pass from Long to Zeb Bontemps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Serna scored two more times in the first half on Contreras\u2019 second score and a 33-yard catch and run by Tufaga on a pass from Long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rio Mesa kept the game close adding another first half score on a 56-yard run by Bautista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lancers wasted no time to double up their lead to start the second half. Contreras got the call again to cap a three play drive. When Armenta added the extra point, La Serna looked to have the game well in hand at 42-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spartans showed they still had gas in their tank scoring two unanswered touchdowns, a nine-yard pass from Bittner to Alec Fontyn and a four-yard Bittner run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1-70x47.jpg 70w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/A0A3017-1-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>The La Serna defense got the stops when they needed them most.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now up only seven, Andy George\u2019s crew went back to work grinding out a seven-play, 76-yard drive capped by who else, Contreras on a three-yard run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, the Spartans were forced to move the ball through the air to try and get the score closer.
