That is the takeaway from the Athletics 2-2 series split with the Seattle Mariners.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.38…is the A’s pitching staff’s cumulative ERA!<\/p>\n

The starters were excellent. <\/p>\n

Luis Severino went six innings, allowing three hits and zero runs in the 4-2 Opening Day loss.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Springs followed with six innings, three hits, and zero runs. Springs’ nine K’s got him the A’s first win, a 7-0 shutout.<\/p>\n

Osvaldo Bido was hit hard in his outing, but timely defense got him through five innings to qualify for the 4-2 win.<\/p>\n

JP Sears went six and two-thirds on Sunday, and his only blemish was a two-run homer. The A’s offense went back to sleep in the 2-1 loss.<\/p>\n

In a previous column, we mentioned Brett Rooker may get fifty home runs this year. Tyler Soderstrom may beat him to it with three homers and a healthy .467 batting average to open the campaign. Five A’s hit home runs over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Offensively, the As are off to a slow start with a .233 batting average.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Cubs arrive in West Sacramento today with a 2-4 record. The Bruins are struggling at the plate\u2014.198 batting average\u2014and on the mound, with a 5.32 ERA.<\/p>\n
