Montebello – The Norwalk Lancers hit the road Friday night and came away with a 55\u201314 win over Montebello at Oilers Stadium to kick off the 2025 season. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The Lancers leaned on their powerful run game and strong defense to take control early and never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Norwalk started the night with a five-minute, 75-yard drive that ended with a three-yard touchdown run from Diego Cerritos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On defense, David Ibarra and Marcus Castillo each recorded a sack to force the Oilers to punt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the next drive, Da\u2019ron Walker took his first carry 74 yards for a touchdown, giving Norwalk a quick 14\u20130 lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Montebello tried a trick play on its next possession with a double pass, but it fell incomplete, and they were forced to punt again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cerritos struck again just before the first quarter ended, breaking loose for an 88-yard touchdown to make it 21\u20130.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the second quarter, quarterback Axel Bustamante found Walker for a 50-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 28\u20130. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Montebello finally got on the scoreboard when a tipped pass landed in Sebastian Rodriguez\u2019s hands, and he returned it 77 yards for a touchdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cerritos answered with two more touchdowns before halftime, scoring on runs of 55 and 5 yards to make it 42\u20137 at the break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Walker opened the second half with his third touchdown of the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Montebello responded with a short touchdown run from Donovan Murillo, but Norwalk sealed the win when Keyshawn Williams scored after breaking off a 63-yard run late in the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cerritos finished the game with 208 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries. Walker ran for 213 yards on 13 carries and also caught a 50-yard touchdown pass. Williams added 93 rushing yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On defense, Castillo had 2.5 sacks and several tackles for loss. Ibarra and Onosai Faamatau each had a sack, while Edward DeLeon made plays all over the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Norwalk (1\u20130) will travel to face Santa Fe next week, while Montebello (0\u20131) will host Cantwell.
