(Montebello) The Schurr Spartans and Bonita Bearcats hooked up in each of the teams last non-league game in preparation for league play next week. It was a defensive battle with the Bearcats holding on for a 14-7 win Friday night at Ken Davis field on the campus of Schurr High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

With the Spartans driving with some momentum and less than a minute left to play, Bonita\u2019s Ryder Grosenbach came up with a huge interception of Schurr\u2019s Jacob Torres to seal the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spartans scored the first touchdown of the game at the end of a 12-yard run by Mateo Carrasco. Carrasco did fumble as he made his way for paydirt but the ball was recovered by Schurr in the endzone for the score. Robert Olivares added the extra point for the 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spartan defense held the Bearcat offense in check until early in the second quarter <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bonita\u2019s Trevor Trey busted loose and bulldozed a couple of Schurr defenders on his way to a 19-yard touchdown. The Bearcats went for two but were turned away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mateo Carrasco was the night’s leading rusher with 135-yards.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The score remained 7-6 Spartans until late in the first half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With :44 left to play Bonita\u2019s Cade Burbidge found Matt Millazo on a slant for 21-yards and a score. The Bearcats went for two again and this time were successful as Burbidge called his own number from three yards away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second half featured both team\u2019s defenses as neither offense found any rhythm or footing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the game was winding down, Bonita pushed deep into Spartan territory but were turned away when Schurr\u2019s Caesar Agula intercepted Burbidge in the endzone setting up the final Spartan drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drive would end however with Grosenbach interception putting an end to any hopes of a Spartan comeback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
