The Conquerors also dropped 62 on Wilson in Week Zero. Quarterback Diego Castillo and the offense is clicking. The defense has been stout as well holding opponents to single digits in three of four games. Cal is off to a good start as well and has beaten solid opponents Bell Gardens and El Monte in the last two games. Both teams can score but the Los Altos defense will make more stops. The Conqs get it done.

Los Altos 35 California 28

South Pasadena (2-3) at West Covina (2-2)

South Pasadena has been giving up a lot of points. The Tigers have allowed 76 points in their last two games and gave up 62 in Zero Week to El Segundo. West Covina fell last week to Rancho Bernardo but the Bulldogs do have a couple of good wins over El Rancho and South Hills. West Covina will pound it and eventually grind out a victory. Bulldogs get the win.

West Covina 28 South Pasadena 14

Friday September 26

Santa Fe (1-4) at Covina (2-2) (Covina District Field)

Covina has been in a lot of shootouts. The Colts have scored over 40 points in three of their four games and one of those was a loss. Gatsbee Gumban has ran for 586 yards and Roy Vasquez has thrown for nearly 400. Santa Fe won its first game but has struggled in its last four. The Chiefs won’t be able to stay with the Colts in this one. Covina lights it up again.

Covina 38 Santa Fe 21

Edison (4-1) at La Serna (2-3) (California)

Another tough test for La Serna. The Lancers have scheduled up this year and this is another example. Edison is a perennial power and has only lost once this year – to a quality Yorba Linda team. La Serna will roll through league but the Lancers will fall short against Edison.

Edison 31 La Serna 14

Muir (3-1) at Burbank (3-1) (Burroughs)

This may be the best game of the week. Muir has been rolling this year. The Mustangs only loss was to Charter Oak by one point. Burbank is 3-1 (4-0 on the field). Last week the Bulldogs dropped 49 on Crescenta Valley. Muir is still the class of the Pacific League. If the Mustangs win this one they will run the league table. They’re the champs until somebody knocks them off.

Muir 35 Burbank 24

Arroyo (1-3) at South El Monte (3-2)

Arroyo took a big hit last week against El Monte. South El Monte is riding a three-game winning streak. The Eagles have racked up 84 points in their last two games. The Knights may not have enough to stop the South El Monte offense. Eagles win their fourth straight.

South El Monte 27 Arroyo 13

Diamond Bar (0-4) at Rowland (4-0)

Rowland has been the surprise of the San Gabriel Valley. The Raiders have won four straight. Walnut was expected to beat them and Rowland won 28-7. Last week Nogales was supposed to give them fits and the Raiders rolled 42-6. Diamond Bar is still seeking its first victory but the Brahmas have played a tough schedule. Diamond Bar will give Rowland all it wants but in the end the Raiders will emerge with the victory.

Rowland 27 Diamond Bar 24

Village Christian (2-2) at La Canada (5-0)

La Canada has been playing nearly perfect football. The Spartans have dispatched their last two opponents (Crescenta Valley and Maranatha) by the combined score of 84-27. Joe Bell and Dash Paper have been lighting up the scoreboard. Village Christian won two straight and then battled two solid opponents in Schurr and Paraclete but came up short. The question is can Village slow down the La Canada offense? Maybe once or twice but not all night. Spartans improve to 6-0.

La Canada 34 Village Christian 27

Quick Hits

Thursday September 25

Pasadena at Glendale – Pasadena

Burroughs at Arcadia – Arcadia

Dr. Maya Angelou at Temple City – Temple City

Elsinore at Diamond Ranch – Diamond Ranch

Friday September 26

St. Anthony at Rio Hondo Prep – Rio Hondo Prep

El Monte at Marshall – El Monte

Franklin at San Marino – San Marino

Charter Oak at Jordan – Charter Oak

Crescenta Valley at Hoover – Crescenta Valley

Gabrielino at Mt.
