Northview is a lot like Monrovia but even more physical. Baldwin Park isn’t there just yet. The Vikings are the best team in the Valle Vista until someone knocks them off. It won’t happen…at least not yet. Northview gets the win.

Northview 31 Baldwin Park 14

Friday October 3

Muir (4-1) at Crescenta Valley (3-2)

Burbank is the second-best team in the Pacific and Muir beat the Bulldogs by 30. Nobody will touch the Mustangs in the Pacific. Muir rolls.

Muir 45 Crescenta Valley 10

Rancho Cucamonga (1-4) at Damien (5-0)

Good test for Damien. The Spartans are undefeated though their first five games but Rancho Cucamonga may be on a different level. The Cougars are 1-4 but they have played a rugged schedule. Damien hasn’t exactly played cupcakes either. Last week the Spartans dropped 40 on a Salesian team that had won three straight coming in. Rancho may compete for awhile but this Damien team has too much. Spartans stay unbeaten.

Damien 34 Rancho Cucamonga 13

South Pasadena (2-4) at Monrovia (5-0)

The last couple of years South Pasadena has run roughshod over Monrovia. But this is a different Monrovia team. The Tigers have Trey Freking and he’ll get his yards but the Wildcats should make enough stops overall. Last week they held an explosive Baldwin Park team to 14. Monrovia lost quarterback Jesse Saucedo to an injury but the Cats have other weapons in Troy Grise and Byron Bell. M-Town moves to 6-0.

Monrovia 31 South Pasadena 17

La Serna (3-3) at El Rancho (3-2)

The narrative was that La Serna was in a down year. The Lancers were below .500 with both wins coming over teams that they should beat. Then they beat Edison last week and everything changed. El Rancho has been up and down. The Dons are 3-2 but some were surprised by the loss to Bell Gardens at home. The Dons are still solid – probably the second-best team in the Del Rio. The emphasis is on “second”. La Serna is clearly the best. La Serna wins handily.

La Serna 38 El Rancho 14

Glendora (1-4) at Charter Oak (4-1)

Glendora had lost four straight before beating Ayala last week for its first victory. The Tartans have lost several players to graduation and have been struggling so far this year. Charter Oak could run the Sierra League table. The Chargers will be tested at some point but it won’t be here. Corin Berry, Antonio Reasby and company cruise to the win. Chargers win big.

Charter Oak 38 Glendora 7

San Dimas (3-2, 2-3 on field) at Diamond Ranch (3-2, 2-3 on field)

Diamond Ranch can score. The Panthers dropped 42 on Ganesha and Ontario Christian and scored 46 in a shootout loss to Covina. San Dimas will want to slow the game down, control the clock and pound the ball down the field. The Saints were able to do that against Pasadena and Colony. They have lost two straight coming in but have played two quality opponents. Both teams would love to get a win to kick off the Valle Vista League. San Dimas gets it done.

San Dimas 24 Diamond Ranch 14

Colony (2-3) at Bonita (2-3, 3-2 on field)

The Bearcats have some injuries to key players but have still been able to compete. Freshman quarterback Cade Burbidge has done an admirable job of stepping in for the injured Travis Lippert. Colony is trying to find its way entering the contest at 2-3. Bonita could be 4-1 right now if not for a paperwork error and a three-point loss to Muir. The Bearcats will have enough to get the win here.

Bonita 21 Colony 14

Quick Hits

Thursday October 2

Bell Gardens at Alhambra – Bell Gardens

Schurr at San Gabriel – Schurr

Friday October 3

Bishop Amat at Chaminade – Bishop Amat

Chino at Covina (Covina District Field) – Covina

Rio Hondo Prep at First Baptist (Dallas, TX) -Rio Hondo Prep

Maranatha at Linfield Christian -Maranatha

Duarte at Garey -Duarte

Lynwood at Norwalk – Norwalk

La Mirada at Warren – La Mirada

El Monte at Rosemead – El Monte

Nogales at Azusa (Citrus College) – Nogales

Temple City at La Canada – La Canada

Gabrielino at South El Monte -South El Monte

West Covina at Alta Loma – Alta Loma

Burbank at Arcadia – Burbank

Walnut at Diamond Bar – Diamond Bar

Can Ray Madrid III and El Rancho pull an upset over La Serna?
