Covina has lost its last two league games including a 47-6 rout at the hands of Los Altos last week. The Brahmas offense is starting to pick it up now while the Colts’ defense is having trouble making stops. Diamond Bar wins its third straight.

Diamond Bar 34 Covina 24

Chino (3-4) at Los Altos (7-0)

Los Altos is perfect so far. Some thought that would change in league but the Conquerors have continued to win. Chino won its league opener over Covina and took care of Walnut last week. There are still three league games to play after this week but for right now this is the battle for first place in the Hacienda. Los Altos has met every challenge so far this year. The Conqs will answer the bell again.

Los Altos 24 Chino 17

Friday October 17

Rio Hondo Prep (7-0) at Viewpoint (7-0)

Rio Hondo Prep just keeps rolling along. The Kares even went to Dallas, Texas and still came away with a three-touchdown victory. Viewpoint is undefeated as well but hasn’t played the schedule that Rio Hondo Prep has. At this point people aren’t asking can the Kares win but can they ever lose? They might eventually but not in this one. Kares will win their eighth straight.

Rio Hondo Prep 35 Viewpoint 14

Bonita (4-3, 5-2 on field) at Claremont (6-1)

Bonita has won its last four games after a loss to Aquinas back on September 5th. Claremont took one on the chin last week at Charter Oak after winning its first six games. Travis Lippert is back at quarterback for the Bearcats after missing several games with an injury. He led them to a big win over Glendora last week. Claremont’s quarterback Brandon Coronado is out as well and is questionable this week. Bonita, especially with Lippert healthy has a little too much for the Wolfpack. Bonita comes out on top.

Bonita 28 Claremont 10

Charter Oak (6-1) at Los Osos (3-4)

Charter Oak proved it’s the team to beat in the Sierra League with a dominant performance last week over a previously unbeaten Claremont team. Tory Huff, Corin Berry and JD Sanchez were all hitting on all cylinders. Sanchez scored three times in the red zone. Los Osos picked up its first league win last week with a victory over Colony. The Chargers will be tested in league before the season ends but they’ll win this one.

Charter Oak 31 Los Osos 13

Monrovia (5-2) at La Canada (7-1)

That was a tough break for Monrovia when quarterback Jesse Saucedo went down with a season ending injury in a win over Baldwin Park. The Wildcats have lost their last two games including a 17-14 loss last week to St. Genevieve. A loss this week could mean a possible third place finish in the Rio Hondo with San Marino still on the horizon. La Canada let one get away last week in a frustrating defeat to South Pasadena. The Spartans still have their eye on a league title and will need a win here to have any shot at that. The Spartans will be in desperation mode. It won’t be easy but La Canada finds a way. Spartans win in a close call.

La Canada 27 Monrovia 24

Northview (6-1) at San Dimas (4-3, 3-4 on field)

The narrative early in the season was that it’s a down year for Northview. It has been anything but. The Vikings have won six of seven games including a big win over La Serna. Last week they routed Diamond Ranch 47-14. San Dimas blew out Diamond Ranch as well two weeks ago but last week the Saints suffered a three-point loss to West Covina. The Saints will pound the ball and may have a shot if they can keep the ball away from Northview’s potent offense. They may hang in for awhile but in the end the Vikings get it done. It’s not a down year for Northview.

Northview 31 San Dimas 21

Baldwin Park (4-3) at West Covina (5-2)

While West Covina was beating San Dimas Baldwin Park was losing its third straight game to Alta Loma. The Braves fell to Monrovia and then lost its first two Valle Vista League games to Northview and Alta Loma. The Braves need a win here to stay in the hunt for a playoff berth. West Covina is a tough out. The Bulldogs were down late in the game before rallying to beat San Dimas. In comparing scores, Baldwin Park lost to Alta Loma 35-6 while West Covina beat Alta Loma 28-26. The Braves will push West Covina, even into the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs will prevail in the end.

West Covina 24 Baldwin Park 21

Quick Hits

Thursday October 16

Burroughs at Muir – Muir

Crescenta Valley at Pasadena (SoFi Stadium – 8:30 PM) – Pasadena

Upland at Damien – Damien

Friday October 17

El Rancho at Whittier – El Rancho

La Serna at California – La Serna

Wilson at Nogales – Nogales

Norwalk at Gahr – Norwalk

Diamond Ranch at Alta Loma – Alta Loma

Arroyo at Gabrielino – Arroyo

Bishop Amat at Loyola – Bishop Amat

Warren at Mayfair – Mayfair

San Marino at South Pasadena – South Pasadena

Alhambra at Schurr- Schurr

Montebello at Bell Gardens – Bell Gardens

Downey at Paramount – Downey

Arcadia at Glendale – Arcadia

San Gabriel at Keppel – San Gabriel

Duarte at Bassett – Duarte

Richard Perry and Diamond Bar have a big Hacienda League game against Covina Thursday night.
